Howling Wolf Farmstay Yurt

Howling Wolf Farm is about creating connection.  Our farm in the heart of Vermont is a home for people who love to eat and want to better understand and experience the land that real food comes from.

I'm Jenn Colby of Howling Wolf Farm. My husband Chris and I were born in Randolph and are deeply committed to our community because of its visual beauty, the kind and giving people, and its perfect location in Central Vermont.

Fewer and fewer people grow or raise food themselves. People who eat (that’s all of us!) have grown increasingly disconnected--from farms growing real food, and from one another. It’s a big challenge to understand how we can make positive choices for ourselves and the world at large.

On top of that, life is FULL. When are we going to take time for ourselves (especially women)? We find ourselves trying to schedule and maximize every single minute. FULL STOP. When we take time to pause and breathe, a part of ourselves that we've forgotten about wakes up. New inspiration arrives, we tap into our creativity, and we feel refreshed and energized. We REconnect with ourselves in a noticeable, tangible way.

That’s what we're trying to create--a retreat space where people can relax, unplug, and settle in to watch the sheep graze, the wild turkeys lead their babies in a line, or the hawks fly overhead.

We offer events, classes and group dinners bringing people together in a beautiful place to relax and enjoy themselves. Our approach is all about allowing people to slow down and experience farm and small-town community life in a low key, friendly way.

The farm is just about a mile from an Amtrak station and less than five miles from the interstate, which makes it easy for visitors to visit from DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Boston, and New York. There's a crazy good local beer and cheese scene. If you like to hike or bike, our farm connects into a recreational trail network. Or if you just want the excuse to sleep in or read a book, it's totally up to you.

We chose IFW because we believe creating connection between people is how we bring more good into the world, and IFW really gets that. Every moment we help people feel welcome and part of our family, we are increasing that good.

I am part farmer, part educator, and part nerdy scientist, and I've loved working with animals since I was a kid. I started this farm because of my passion for animals, real food, and taking good care of the land. My husband was a competitive BBQ pitmaster for over a decade and has been a musician for more than 30 years. We love hosting events and seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces.  It really feeds our souls.

We're raising funds on IFW to set up an on-farm yurt for visitors coming to stay for a day, a weekend, a week, or longer (such a wonderful place to write that novel!). Fully funded, we’ll be able to insulate the yurt to host guests year round and include bathroom facilities to create a clean, comfortable vacation spot for a group, couple, or individual.
