Shopping is only our common interest! 

It all started with Carina's idea of a co-working space. We found a great space and signed our first commercial lease. Only to find out we couldn't do this because it was zoned for retail use.

Not having enough money to pay rent for months without producing, or to buy inventory, we had to be resourceful. So we went to our closets, ikea for some racks and opened the door to "Shop 51 Heath". A "pop-up family thrift store" but more like an indoor yard sale.

At the end of summer we decided to continue with this concept but focusing on serving the clients we were getting; women.

Then we realized our clients have a problem just like Carina; a full closet but nothing to wear when is time to go out. Lots of it they won't wear again or still have tags but they can't return it. They want to sell it but don't know how and most importantly don't have the time to figure it out.

This gave us the opportunity to introduce consignment. We sell your unwanted items, you make 50% of the sale, or if you just want to just get rid of things we can take it off your hands as donations. 

The main thing that sets us apart from the local thrift and consignment stores you know is that we are a combination of both. 

• We realized that consignment is a new concept to the latinos and African-American community. 

• Each item is hand selected by us to meet quality standards. 

• We aim to make our customers feel welcome and valued. We pamper them with massage and we bring wellness and educational events to empower them to look & feel their very best.

• We provide a platform to local women to sell their hand-made goods in our store.

We have learned a lot through trial and error and adapted to the needs of our business and our customers. Remember, this wasn't the original plan so there are some disadvantages to our location for this business which is why we want to expand to a second store, and guess what, we already signed the lease :D

The new location will provide us more visibility & foot traffic. We need funding to set-up the new store and open for business this fall with full-time employees. We want to keep our current store because we have built a community we want to continue to serve.
