Project Description
The Beginning
According to a 2020 report by Sapling HR, The lack of women and ethnic minorities in leadership roles factors into the uncontrolled wage gap. Black women, Native American women, and Latinas earn $0.75 for every dollar a white man earns, when data are uncontrolled for compensable factors like job type, seniority, industry, and years of experience. Black men earn $0.87 for every dollar a White man earns, Native American men and Latinos earn $0.91, and Pacific Islander men earn $0.95.
Mimconnect was created to increase economic opportunity and access for previously marginalized groups.
As a Black woman, our founder, Netta Dobbins, always found herself in rooms where she was one of the only. Wanting to create a community of people who looked like her and understood the nuances of navigating corporate America, Netta launched Mimconnect as a small group chat in 2017.
In less than 2 weeks, this group chat had over 300 people join it and also share their stories and issues navigating this corporate space - many where being underpaid, looked over for job opportunities, unsure of how to promote themselves and more.
Realizing the immediate need for this community, Netta began to grow Mimconnect into what is now the most engaged digital network helping 10K+ Black and brown professionals navigate and advance in their careers.
How Mimconnect Helps Professionals Of Color
We launched our freemium digital membership in April 2020. By being a member of Mimconnect, you gain access to weekly masterclasses and events, career coaches, an always-on digital network of your peers, job opportunities and more! How Mimconnect Works With Companies
2020 was a year - and conversations surrounding systemic racism were prevalent. With a mission to create access to opportunities for BIPOC professionals, Mimconnect began working with companies to improve their diversity recruitment, retention and development strategies.
A 2020 McKinsey report states that diverse teams have been shown to be more likely to radically innovate and anticipate shifts in consumer needs and consumption patterns—helping their companies to gain a competitive edge.
With that in mind our goal was to create a 360-degree model that enabled us to provide resources that truly propelled professionals of color in the workplace while giving companies the skills to ensure they're creating equitable and inclusive internal work environments.
