Mexican Spice has to Relocate.
Please help us survive this transition.
As many of you know, Mexican Spice is a local, woman owned business, which started in my kitchen over six years ago. It’s been a journey of hard work at weekend farmers markets, festivals and local school fundraisers. We then leased a commercial kitchen to continue catering countless Corporate and Private Events, offering Meals To Go at two brick and mortar locations, and added a super cute Taco Truck.
But now, Mexican Spice is in trouble.
Like so many of our local businesses, Covid-19 has forced us to drastically reduce our services exclusively to take out and delivery. We have adjusted our pricing, created promotions and supplied over 1,200 meals to our heroes on the frontline through the amazing FLAG movement. We desperately want to continue being a part of this community that has been so generous and supportive of us.
Just when we were finally getting the hang of things, we got some more bad news. Our current location will not be flexible in allowing us to offer ANY TAKEOUT or operate the taco truck on site. There is simply no way we can survive with these restrictions… We are forced to relocate our operations immediately.
Needless to say, this is not something we thought we’d have to do this year. We have literally been in “survival mode” these last few months (with 4 full time employees who are the sole supporters of their families, including my sister Andrea, a single mother of 2), and our resources have been severely depleted.
We got lucky and found a perfect location right in Chatham, but it needs a lot of work. We have cobbled together all our remaining resources and have come up $34,000 short of the bare minimum we need to make this rapid transition a reality.
For this reason we have created a crowdfunding campaign in hopes of raising the necessary funds to acquire some kitchen equipment, pay skilled plumbers, electricians and contractors needed to help us meet code.
We know it will take a lot of little miracles to make this happen, which is why, for your contribution we’d like to honor you by hanging a “little Miracle" (Milagrito) heart with your name on our Miracle Wall in our new space.
We are also offering a few other perks in our fundraising page.
Please consider supporting us in this transition so we can continue being a part of this community with our authentic food and support.
You will always be greeted with a smile. We will actively continue to support our schools, our Education Foundation, our Downtown, our Frontline Workers and keep and create a couple few jobs for people who really need them.
Your orders will continue to be prepared with the utmost quality, authenticity and care.
And we will never, ever, run out of churros!
From the bottom of my heart,
Jennifer Teutli Alarcon
