The Love of 10,000 Gift-A-Book Campaign
Supporting the emotional wellbeing of our next generation leaders through ancestral wisdom.
Project Description
The Love of 10,000 Gift-A-Book Campaign will donate copies of the book to students in underresourced communities to support the emotional, spiritual and mental wellbeing of our next generation leaders!
As our students continue to deal with “business as usual,” there is a lot of discussion about our children's mental health and overall wellbeing. In addition, there is great concern for their understanding of history, both social and personal. In our children's book, we look to connect both by looking at the journey of our protagonist, a little Black girl, her friends and her Ancestors. This journey reminds us all that, in the face of what we see on a daily basis, we are surrounded by a lasting legacy of love, courage and power.
My book is connected to the work of my coaching practice, KB Coaching. The practice focuses on the overall wellbeing of leaders at every level of leadership. With this focus leading the charge of all of our endeavors, "The Love of 10,000" allows us to educate, coach and motivate our young leaders in a digestible way.
I originally published "The Love of 10,000," my first children's book in 2019. The book is a visual love poem from me to my daughter (who serves as the Editor for the book). Inspired by Dr. Maya Angelou's poem "Our Grandmothers," this poem reminds us all that as we navigate life, we are surrounded by those who love and guide us every day.
During this time of crisis when there is a push to ban books that educate our children into their full personhood, I would like to donate copies of my book to school districts to support the emotional wellbeing of our next generation leaders.

- Which school districts have been identified as "underresourced?"
Under-resourced schools as defined by the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA) are schools characterized as having insufficient resources and tend to serve large numbers of disadvantaged and/or low-income students.
- How will we know the books have been donated?
All districts will be required to provide written confirmation of book donations. In addition, we are requesting all teachers that receive donations to their respective classes to share a picture of them with the books in their classrooms (Please Note: Any images of children with the book will be blurred in order to protect their identity)
- Who are the members of the Creative Team for the book?
Dr. Kecia Brown is an author, poet, educator and “mompreneur.”
She loves singing, baking and watching “Cake Wars” with her daughter, Mak. Love of Ten Thousand is her first children’s book.
Mak Imani McManus is a budding artist who enjoys baking, coding and basketball. She inspired the creation of this book because she is funny, kind, and a little loopy. She is a beautiful little girl with a beautiful heart and spirit.
Ros Webb has been illustrating children’s books for over a decade, developing her own unique and quirky style that children and adults love. Ros lives in the Irish mountains and is greatly inspired by her three children, three dogs and four cats.
Shawndra Cox-Diaz is a Creative Director and owner of a Graphic Design company. What she loves the most about her job is getting to meet new people and working on all of their cool and interesting projects (like this book)! Shawndra’s favorite quote is “continue to be inspired and an inspiration to others ...” because she made it up herself
Spanish Translator-Lety Cantero Román is Mexican, is a wife, mother of 3 beautiful children, translator, English teacher, and supervisor at an elementary school in the United States. She plays piano, she likes to go to the movies, to swim, and above all to spend fun moments with her little ones.
Portuguese Translator-Clarice Glahn was born in Brazil, but chose Portugal as her home. She likes to travel, to watch silly romantic comedies and David Bowie. She studies Politics and International Relations and works as a Portuguese and English teacher, in addition to her work as a translator.
French Translator-Rebecca Leah D’mello teaches English and French to students aged 9 to 16 in schools in India. She enjoys languages, working with children, music, cats and experimenting in the kitchen. An amateur artist and passionate about literature, she finds inspiration in her own unique way of interpreting everyday life and dreams of writing a children's book.
