Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: What is a "baking box?"
A: Kate's Safe and Sweet Baking Box includes Kate's own exclusive cake mix, frosting mix, plant-based food dye and sprinkles, fun decor items, decorating ideas, piping tips and bags, candles, and an exclusive children's food allergy and celiac disease coloring and activity book for children and their friends.
Q: How does Kate from Kate's Safe and Sweet Baking Box know Kate from Busy Bee Kate?
A. Oh! We are one in the same :)
Q: You mention the top 8 allergens a lot, what are they and how do you know they are the top 8 allergens?
A. The FDA enforces the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act of 2004 which identifies the eight most common allergenic foods. These foods account for 90 percent of food allergic reactions. The eight foods identified by the law are:
3. Fish (e.g., bass, flounder, cod)
4. Crustacean shellfish (e.g., crab, lobster, shrimp)
5. Tree nuts (e.g., almonds, walnuts, pecans)
These eight foods, and any ingredient that contains protein derived from one or more of them, are designated as “major food allergens” by FALCPA.
Q: You also mention the top 12 allergens in Canada - what are they and how do you know that they are the top 12 allergens?
Health Canada, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), allergy associations, and the medical community have identified the key substances most frequently associated with food allergies and allergic-type reactions. These substances are often referred to as priority food allergens, and are:
5. Crustaceans and molluscs
7. Sesame seeds
10. Tree Nuts
11. Wheat and triticale

Q: I have non-top 8 allergens, is this product right for me?
According to the FDA, more than 160 foods can cause allergic reactions in people with food allergies. Persons may still be allergic to — and have serious reactions to — foods other than the eight foods identified by the FDA or the twelve foods identified by the Government of Canada.
Always be sure to read the food label’s ingredient list carefully to avoid the food allergens in question.
