Last year, I embarked on a mission to explore and amplify the voices of female entrepreneurs and leaders that are breaking barriers. These women are not yet household names, but they should be. I want to share their stories because they are revolutionary in their fields. The timing of producing this documentary is extremely important and relevant to the current social and political climate, but more importantly, to our future.
THE PROBLEM
In 2019, it was reported that 6% of CEO’s are female. Only 2.8% of Female founders get funded by venture capital. Female representation is on the rise in business and media but the progress towards gender equality in the workplace is too slow, especially for women of color.
THE SOLUTION
The women you will see in this documentary are part of a growing movement who are tapping into the collective strength of the community of women and allies, to break through the glass ceiling and create opportunities for other women. By seeing, hearing, and sharing their stories, we are proclaiming that we will not be satisfied with others creating the narratives for our lives and our future. We will not allow others to determine to whom leadership and success should be conferred. We will lead. We will create our own success. We are the weavers and narrators of our own stories.
Donations to help fund the completion of this documentary will be a revolutionary act itself. Join me in the revolution of fempires!
OUR MISSION
I launched Carmen & Co, a media production company to continue this important journey. Carmen & Co is on a mission to represent the unsung sheroes across the nation making positive changes in their communities and disrupting industries. Our approach is to create content that educates and inspires audiences to unlearn the social constructs our society has raised us to believe. We aim to create space for a new dialogue that allows us to progress forward through sharing meaningful stories of marginalized people who are innovators and make an impact on mass audiences. The intent is to work with a diverse group of people who share a similar vision for collective progress and change for the better.
