From the Founder, Lucinda Koza:
In February 2020, I founded I Ally, Inc., a platform to provide access to resources and solutions for Caregivers. This idea was birthed out of a need I saw and felt when my dad became ill. I felt a distinct lack of resources, especially aimed at a young caregiver, who is just figuring out how to handle her own finances, much less her parent's. The more research I did, the more I saw I wasn't alone -- people in the Millennial generation were squarely being hit with this responsibility due to lack of long-term care support, and they were being hit with it at the worst time -- when they were just beginning to build their own careers or family or life. Often, the caregiver ends up having to quit their job or being let go so they can provide care full time, placing them among the others that comprise 25% of the nation's 40 million UNPAID family caregiver workforce.
So, I've created an app!
I Ally contains many facets.
In its most basic form, I Ally is a Mutual Aid Platform built with our partner Golden Volunteer in which anyone in the country can post a need for help ("I need someone to perform a wellness check on my dad") and a fully-vetted volunteer can post an offer to help ("I can perform a wellness check on your dad at 4pm today.") This is completely free and has been particularly helpful in response to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Through our partner Backpack Health, the Caregiver can store all of the medical paperwork for their patient and share it with whom they choose to maintain continuity (say, from the hospital to the neurologist) and maintain control of their patient's information.
My favorite feature of the app is our partnership with Thera-LINK, which enables us to fully host Telehealth natively within I Ally. Caregivers can access care for their patients, and, mental healthcare for themselves, customized for them and their needs. This is my favorite part because caregiver stress and caregiver burden can be incredibly detrimental to the caregiver's health, and at such a young age, can potentially derail their lives.
Why are we raising money?
Crowdfunding, unlike a business loan, does not have to be repaid and does not charge interest. We are raising money so we can accomplish an alternative business model for I Ally, which is to provide as many services to Caregivers without charging them directly.
