Casita was founded by Antonette Franceschi-Chavez, an amazing Afro-Latina educator from Los Angeles. Antonette has a wealth of experience working in dual-language programs across underserved communities in Los Angeles. She is passionate about representing diverse cultures, providing access to engaging texts, and promoting bilingualism. When you visit Casita, you'll feel right at home with the friendly family atmosphere. The store is 100% family-operated, so you'll always find a member of the family there, from the adorable toddler "restocking" the shelves to mom and dad ringing out customers. As active members of our community, we work hard to promote empathy and inclusivity in everything we do. We are frequently invited to community events, school book fairs, and cultural festivals to bring stories that represent diverse and inclusive voices. Many schools invite us to participate in events such as "back-to-school night" or "open house" to share books that represent their students and their community. We are also surrounded by dual-language schools that call on us to bring authentic and engaging Spanish books to their families.

In addition to school events, we also host storytimes, including Drag Story Hour and bilingual storytime, author meet and greets, poetry readings, and book giveaways for children.

We are committed to sourcing books that provide an opportunity for all readers to see themselves, their experiences, and their communities reflected in the pages of a book. Our bookstore sources diverse books, along with authentic Spanish texts, to ensure inclusivity and representation.

 

 

As our organization continues to grow and serve our community, we have come to realize that we need more resources to sustain our expansion. your help will acquire the funds we need to keep going. to continue to provide authentic Spanish books to our dual-language schools, which can be an expensive and time-consuming process. Having more inventory on hand would allow us to serve our community more effectively and provide them with the books they need.

In addition to our need for more inventory, we also need more support to manage our growing operations. With the funds we receive, we plan to hire at least one part-time employee.
