Project Description
Māva is a proud recipient of the Angel City FC and iFundWomen grant. It was a true honor to be recognized in front of all of ACFC's fans. A night we will never forget!
Māva was established on June 24, 2020 in the midst of the pandemic by Sophia Fernandez. Sophia was determined to prove that she could not only be an entrepreneur, but be a successful entrepreneur in a male dominated industry. Māva was in fact formed by a woman to show women that we can be a strong force within the trucking industry. We are just as resilient as men when it comes to transportation and logistics.
Our mission is to normalize women in trucking and bring new and fresh ideas to the transportation and logistics industry. We want women to feel accepted in the trucking industry and for men to view women in this industry as equal. Women should feel empowered in this transportation industry. We want to support and cheer on little girls who dream to drive semi-trucks or dream of owning their own company in logistics.
Our goal is to gain 10-15 solid customers with some being established brokers and others being direct customers. We look forward to having more dedicated lanes and consistent work through these relationships. Māva currently owns eight trucks and two dry vans. The plan is to grow our fleet according to our growing list of prospects. We need to make sure we have the right amount of equipment to be sure to cover all the moving freight of our customers.
At Māva, we fix problems that other carriers do not solve while delivering top quality service. We develop trustworthy relationships with brokers and become the eyes and ears for these companies who are states away. Our customers love us because we go a step further in making our customers happy. We have been trusted to retrieve stolen equipment for our customers, we repair damaged equipment, we have been asked to perform special and confidential tasks, and we even mount some of our customers containers onto chassis.
Māva hopes to seek funding to maintain our current fleet and to continue to grow our fleet. Funding will also go towards payroll which is our biggest expense. I believe in paying our employees a well-deserved salary because these are the individuals who help keep Māva successful.
Team Māva consists of my sister, Nadia, my father, Joe, and my best friend, Julianna. These three keep our trucks rolling, quite literally. Nadia runs our books, Joe keeps up with the maintenance of the trucks and Jules gets work for our trucks and works with each driver to help their days run smooth. Of course, I also have my great group of drivers- John, who is our lead driver, Oscar, Ausencio, Miguel, Reynaldo, Ricardo, Julio and Hu. We have a phenomenal weekend dispatcher, Alex, and an amazing CPA, Ryan. Without these great individuals, my dream of Māva being great would be less attainable. These individuals that are mentioned are some of the most awesome people I have ever had the opportunity to know and work with.

- How did you get the name Māva?
- We combined the names Mazlyn and Ava. Mazlyn is the daughter of Sophia and Ava is the daughter of Nadia. These two gals will be running Māva in the future.
- What made you want to start a trucking company?
- Nadia and Sophia wanted to pick up where their father, Joe, left off. Joe had his own trucking company from 2006-2008, but, unfortunately had to liquidate his assets when the economy tanked. Using what Joe learned and what Nadia and Sophia brought to the table, Māva took off even during the world's pandemic.
- What type of work does Māva currently run?
- Māva currently runs containers out of the rail yards. Māva also has two dry vans in the fleet and runs dedicated freight using these two 53' vans.
