"Learning a musical instrument has a global effect on the increase of your brain capacity and IQ. What you learn through playing a musical instruments transfer over to all the other aspects of your brain intelligence."
Pacific Harps has a mission to bring the opportunity of playing the harp to as many people as possible, and to bring music education into the lives of young people wherever we can. The ideal way is through the schools in the form of classes, and now that music is no longer offered as part of the core school curriculum in California we are trying to fill that gap in education.
Music brings many benefits to people of all ages, but especially to younger growing and learning brains. Besides improving the quality of life, it has been scientifically proven to improve IQ, enhance: math skills, abstract thinking, problem solving, physical coordination, comprehension, language and mental flexibility just to name some of the benefits. Learning a musical instrument increases self confidence and self reliance. It requires self discipline, goal setting and scheduling skills (just making the time to practice takes scheduling skills). These skills and trainings are so beneficial to the future success of students, especially in this age of instant gratification and on demand entertainment and information. To do an activity that takes time to develop and grow is an unusual activity in these times. Please follow this link to read an enriching article on this subject of how musical training enhances IQ and brain function. https://www.theguardian.com/education/2016/oct/24/want-to-train-your-brain-forget-apps-learn-a-musical-instrument
Another bonus for music students and especially harp students, is that more scholarship assistance is available to them in college, regardless of whether or not they are music majors.
In order for us to be able to contribute to the education of our children, to be able to invest in the future of our communities, our country and our world, we need help. We currently have 30 rental harps and they are all rented, with a waiting list for more. We get calls every day for rental harp requests. Your support will help us to fill this growing need.
Pacific Harps is made up of an all female team: Carolyn Sykes (Owner), Diana Diaz (Operations Manager), Pheobe Schrafft (Lead Sales Representative), Jessica Brizuela (Social Media Manager), Desiree Owens (Website and Records), Ruth Ann Berg (Bookkeeper) and Ali Henderson (Administration).
Goals
$5000 will buy 4 Celtic harps, enough to start one small class
$5000 will pay for one year of tuition, music books, electronic tuners, teacher fees, harp maintenance (eg: strings and restringing when strings break), harp rental fees.
50% of everything we raise will go towards class subsidies, the other 50% towards buying the harps needed.
We have set 20 goals of $5000 each, 10 for harps and 10 for tuition subsidies; we will have a big hooray! and surprise bonus gifts after each level is met!
