Who is Changing the Face of Entrepreneurship?
Women are some of the most ambitious small business owners in America. They are behind skincare businesses, haircare business, health, wellness, event planning, consulting, media, tech. Within the last ten years, 3.5 million businesses were started by women; 80% of those were started by women of color.
The Funding Gap is Wide and is Only Getting Wider
Women of color are least likely to receive financial backing from angel investors, venture capitalists, and other resources to help get their businesses off the ground. Tech is the talk when it comes to startup capital, even though there hasn't been a single game changing tech explosion since Facebook. And these varied female owned small businesses have the potential to last twenty to thirty years.
The Current Co-Working Model Doesn't Welcome All
Reports and casual conversations also prove that women want a comfortable co-working environment: free from "bro" like Alpha male behavior and unwanted sexual advances.
We know now- the power women yield when they are empowered to come together and advocate for themselves. Let them do that in a space that is welcoming and affirming.
So let the WerkSpace be part of the change!
The WerkSpace model is a co-working and wellness facility for female entrepreneurs of color. From a dedicated monthly Werk desk to professional Werkshops and Wellness classes, subscribers and community members alike will have a space to call home.
Our Media Lab will provide podcasters, video bloggers, and other businesses looking to use media to promote themselves a space to Werk quietly, receive technical assistance, and produce professional looking and sounding products.
Our WellSpace will provide various wellness classes, trainings, werkshops, and the like. Self care is one of the most important and neglected things in an ambitious woman's life. Let's allow for a space where they can access it quickly, easily, and with familiar faces!
But as ambitious women in Boston looking to bring like minded boss women into one space, we know all too well the high cost of commercial space in this city and its communities.
Please give whatever you can to help us get to our goal of $20,000 which will help outfit a space, and begin bringing in the brilliant women who need a place to collaborate network and thrive.

The Campaign FAQs
Q: Umm, hi. What are you going to do with my money?
A: Use it to secure a space in the Boston area that is accessible to all and near communities who need this most. Due to the insane rental market in Boston, we want to make sure we can afford and outfit a space that is just as welcoming as the Cambridge and Downtown co-working spaces. Your generous donation will go specifically to rent, design and decor, and any construction needs. While these costs could actually reach anywhere from $75,000-$200,000, we feel that getting into a space and giving women access is our most crucial goal, and we want to do it quickly!
Q: What happens if you don't raise the $20,000?
A: We are running as flex campaign. So when the campaign is over, we will be able to keep the money, whether we hit our goal or not. Any amount will make a big difference for us.
Q: I wanna WERK! How can I become a WerkSpace Member?
A: Well for one, if you donate at level 4, you'll receive a 30% discount for a full year! But other than that, it's simple for now! Join our email list on our website and we refer to your contact information when we have secured our space. Then you will fill out a simple form verifying your business and listing your needs, and we are off from there! But please be patient, as we need to get you into a space first!
Q: Do I get anything if I donate?
A: There are various levels and practically each one warrants a reward! Please check our rewards column to see what is available.
Q: Can I take part in the wellness center or media center if I am not a WerkSpace member?
A: Yes! You can rent the media and wellspaces on an hourly, weekly, monthly, and yearly basis. Obviously a yearly membership will save you the most overall, but we know firsthand that upfront costs can get expensive. Our costs will be available on our website soon!
Q: What else will be available at the WerkSpace?
A: We want women to THRIVE! So we will have professional WERKSHOPS (Resume writing, Mock interviews, Salary Negotiating), Wellness WERKSHOPS (Fitness trainings, meditation series, nutrition goals), Media WERKSHOPS (Intros to production, and social media) , and more! We have the ideas! We just need the space! You can help us achieve that!
