Project Description

Campaign update: we will be including every funder's name on a plaque that will be hung in our Kenya office!

Pastoralist Child Foundation (PCF) is raising $25,000 for a much-needed 4x4 vehicle to navigate the bumpy, rocky, sandy, and muddy roads in Kenya in order to reach remote villages in North and West Samburu County. We work at the grassroots level to end harmful practices like female genital mutilation (FGM) and forced early marriage. Our workshops, community dialogues, and youth sports tournaments have been instrumental in educating thousands of villagers, saving thousands of girls from undergoing FGM, and reducing the rate of FGM by 30% in the last decade.

The workshop curriculum consists of the harmful effects of FGM, forced early marriage, teen pregnancy, HIV/AIDS and STD's, sexual and reproductive health, child rights, self-confidence, self-awareness, sanitation, and the importance of education.

Our student scholarship program currently supports 56 students attending secondary boarding schools and universities! Our commitment is to sponsor a girl from every single village where we host workshops and dialogues. The parents and/or guardians of the girls sign an agreement stating they will NOT make their daughters undergo FGM or force them to marry.

We also support women's economic empowerment initiatives.. Four (4) self-help women's groups in Samburu and Maasai Mara were formed as a result of women deciding to take their lives into their own hands. They now own and manage livestock, jewelry and accessories, and sewing/clothing businesses.

Your financial support of a vehicle will have an everlasting impact!! The communities have heard about us. We just need a way to get to them. Hiring cars and drivers has become too expensive. Having our own vehicle will save us time and money. We're ready to go the distance to even more remote villages in West and North Samburu County. Come along for the ride. We have so much to share with you with the beautiful Samburu people!
