This is a campaign to help the Dapper Cat Coffee shop open our doors!
Project Description
Gearing up the community one mug at a time.
The mission of the Dapper Cat is to provide a unique and comfortable opportunity for community via delicious coffee drinks and a steampunk atmosphere.
We are based in a neighborhood that is looked at with disdain due to high levels of poverty, crime, homelessness, and prostitution. Our hope is that by establishing a positive business that welcomes all into community, we can change the stigma that the South Central Neighborhood has on it from one of darkness and scarcity, to one of light and uniqueness.
The South Central Neighborhood has a population of 9200 according to the 2016 census. This has, we assume, increased due to the fact that the area is dense with affordable housing. The city of Wichita, KS also has a population of 920,000. The location of the coffee shop is a great opportunity because there are no coffee shops south of Kellogg Street and west of highway 135 besides a Starbucks that is several miles south.
Dapper Cat Coffee will provide caffeinated beverages in the form of drip coffee, lattes, cappuccinos, etc., as well as smoothies with fresh fruit from our gardens, and baked goods in partnership with a neighborhood bakery called Brianna's. We believe that the combination of coffee, treats, and a good atmosphere helps to foster relationships and community. This then contributes to changing people's perceptions of a particular area.
We are seeking funding to help open the doors to the shop. We had several coffee shop items donated from a closing shop(espresso machine, blenders, grinders, panini presses), however we are still in need of startup funding for licensing, supplies, and seating. Future funding will also contribute to higher quality products and further training.
I, Lydia Mettee, am the owner. My husband Jonathan Mettee is our tech guy and marketing expert. We are also hoping to have volunteers from the neighborhood and local nonprofits come and learn the coffee business!

- When will you send rewards? We will send rewards once the campaign has ended. Rewards should arrive to donors about a month and a half after donation
- When do you expect to open? We will open up as soon as we have the funding to do so! Hopefully late Summer.
- Where did you come up with the name Dapper Cat Coffee? I have a fat, black and white cat named Romeo. He has this half mustache and one day I just decided that he was really dapper. Hence the name!
