Where does Challenging Dogs provide services?
We provide sitting, walking and daycare services in the Baltimore and Washington, DC metropolitan areas, and in Richmond, VA. We currently have a wait list for the Washington, DC area. We have some boarding capacity in Laurel, MD.
Can I get on the wait list for services?
Yes! Please email [email protected] and request to be placed on the wait list.
Do you work with dogs who have a bite history?
Yes, we work with dogs who have a bite history, but we consider the severity of the bite and the circumstances before taking on that client. In cases with more intense issues (whether there is a bite or not), we may require that the client have an experienced, certified dog trainer or behavior specialist working with us.
What is the process for using Challenging Dogs' services?
When a client reaches out for information (or is next in line on the wait list), we have a Zoom introduction call to collect basic information on the behavior issues that your dog has. Once we have that information, we recommend a series of Getting to Know You (GTKY) visits. We may only need two or three GTKY visits for people friendly dogs, but may need 12 or more for dogs who are uncomfortable with new people. The GTKY visits are typically once a week but vary based on scheduling availability. These half hour visits are designed to be as non-threatening and rewarding as possible for your dog. We work on building a relationship with your dog so that we can come in your house when you are not there and provide walking, sitting or other services.

What if I'm not in your service area?
If you are not in our geographic area, we are piloting a consulting service that might help you. We will work remotely with you to identify and work with someone in your area who could provide services. We will assist you in identifying and vetting the person, training them (and you), carrying out GTKY visits and providing services.
