Black Web Fest
A Community that Celebrates Black Creatives and All Things Digital!

Project Description

Black Web Fest is an international festival that celebrates Black creatives and digital content. We believe in bridging the gap between Black creatives and technology. We commit ourselves to educating underserved communities across the African diaspora. Our core themes are media, discovery, education, and technology.

We launched our first festival in 2017. Since launching we’ve had events in New York, Atlanta, and London. We’ve screened over 40 films and highlighted more than 50 independent creatives. During the festival we screen Black short films, documentaries, web series and animation. The event features panels with industry experts and influencers. During this time, we plan to create programming , virtual events, and provide resources to Black creators.
Upcoming Projects
- Creating Immersive Art, VR & AR
- How to Copyright Your Work
- Media Hackathon
- How to Create Press Release & Gain Publicity During Covid
- Ask Me Anythings with Industry Experts
- Virtual Mixers
- Creators Fund
Did You Know?

There is also a lack of gender equality in media. Female characters fill only 28.7% of all speaking roles in film. For scripted series, less than 40% of all speaking characters were girls and women (broadcast=36.4%, cable=37.3%, streaming=38.1%). Only 3.4% of all film directors were female. Among TV and digital series, broadcast had the highest percentage of directors (17.1%) and streaming the lowest (11.8%). Over 69% of our attendees are women.
Our festival creates a unique space for creatives to share films, learn new skills, and network.

Running a festival is costly we want to make sure this upcoming season will be amazing. We are raising funding for Black Web Fest programming. Funding will help us pay for our team, talent, PR, and administration fees (crowdfunding, credit card fees, taxes, reward cost). Also help us fully fund a $5,000 Creators Fund for Black creators in need.
Our stretch goal is $30,000 this will allow us to create our own platform to better service our community.

All rewards will be delivered by January 31, 2021.

The Campaign FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions:
Why did you launch a crowdfunding campaign?
We thought it was an easy way to connect with our community. Black women receive less than .02 percent of early stage funding. For the past two years, the festival has been self-funded by the festival organizer, Victoria Coker. The goal of the crowdfunding campaign is to get funding for initial cost such as securing the venue, promoting the event, hiring PR, growing our team and booking talent.
When will I receive my reward?
All rewards will be received by January 31, 2021.
How will I receive lapel pin?
We will mail your pin to your selected address. Please provide an email address so we can contact you.
Can I submit something other than a film trailer for the film trailer reward?
Sorry we only accept film trailers.
Are there other ways we can support?
Yes, we need volunteers for the festival. Visit our website for more information and please share our campaign with friends and family.
How can I submit my short film, web series, documentary or animation to the festival?
Unfortunately , film festival submissions are currently closed.
How will I receive updates about the campaign?
We will be providing updates via the iFundwomen updates section.
What is the contingency plan if you don’t receive full funding for the campaign?
We are also looking for other avenues to fund programming including donations and membership fees.
