Falcon Drill Team: Empowering, Uplifting, and Inspiring the Next Generation

The Falcon Drill Team was established three years ago at 156th Street Elementary School in Gardena, CA, to provide a space where young girls can develop discipline, teamwork, confidence, and leadership skills through the art of drill and dance. What began as a small initiative has quickly grown into a highly sought-after program, with 25 dedicated members and a waitlist of 15 eager students hoping for the opportunity to join.

The team practices weekly at Just Dance Company, a dance studio conveniently located within walking distance of the school. Thanks to the support of dedicated parent volunteers, the girls are able to attend practice safely and consistently. Just Dance Company, led by owner Ms. J, provides high-quality instruction rooted in years of professional training. Ms. J’s mission is to create an environment where every student can build confidence, develop skills, and cultivate a love for dance. Through this partnership, the Falcon Drill Team has gained valuable exposure, earning opportunities to perform at South Bay Lakers G League halftime shows and compete in various dance competitions.

Beyond dance, the Falcon Drill Team serves as a space for mentorship, leadership development, and cultural pride. The girls are the first to ask for extra practice after school, a testament to their passion and dedication. Wearing their team hoodies adorned with a collectively designed logo, they stand proud, feeling seen and celebrated in a way that many of them have never experienced before.

As the team continues to thrive, strengthening community partnerships remains a priority. We hope to formally include Just Dance Company in our growing list of business collaborators, opening doors to future funding opportunities that will support our girls for years to come. With continued investment, the Falcon Drill Team can expand to accommodate more students, secure resources for uniforms and competition fees, and establish new performance opportunities. More than just a dance team, the Falcon Drill Team is a movement of empowerment, excellence, and sisterhood—proving that when we invest in our youth, we give them the wings to soar.
