Art School is a fresh approach to teaching art.

Art School is the creation of teaching artist and Nashville native Allison Jarrett. The purpose of Art School is to provide engaging contemporary art education to students of all ages, experiences, and abilities.

Art School classes are inspired by contemporary artists, crafters, and makers, and are focused around key concepts, materials, and techniques. Students are given space to interpret projects to suit their interests and ideas, and experimentation is encouraged. While students receive the tools they need to create successful pieces, a beautiful artwork is not the end goal. Learning through the process (and sometimes through failure) is Art School's primary focus, and the path to rediscovering the joy of making.

Expanding Our Reach

Art School is currently based in a small studio in Nashville, Tennessee. We offer homeschool art courses, private lessons, evening and weekend workshops, art parties for kids and adults, and more. The hope for Art School is to expand our offerings beyond the Middle Tennessee area.

The vision is simple: a complete Art School lesson in a box.

In each box, students receive a comprehensive art project built around contemporary artists or artwork. The box includes:

pictures and information about contemporary artists and their work
questions to help you or your child start engaging with the artwork
all the art materials you need to create your own work of art
demonstrations and instructions on how you can use the ideas and techniques from the inspiration to guide your work

Additionally, your subscription gives you access to exclusive online content, including detailed video versions of the lessons. You can share your finished artwork in a community online gallery, learn more about the artists featured in the lesson, and find inspiration from other student artists on how to keep exploring the ideas, techniques, and materials in your box.

The Art School boxes are in development, and are scheduled to launch in Fall 2017. Initially, we plan to offer an annual subscription, with a box shipping once per quarter. The boxes will be designed for three age groups: kids ages 5-10, tweens and teens ages 11-16, and older teens and adults, ages 17 and up.

The Campaign FAQs

What age group are the Art School boxes designed for?

In our initial launch, we plan to offer boxes for three different age groups: kids ages 5-10, tweens and teens ages 11-16, and older teens and adults age 17 and up. The boxes will feature age appropriate content, project ideas, and materials, and online content will offer additional ideas on how to adjust the lesson for older or younger students.

When will the first boxes be ready to ship?

The projected launch date for the first quarterly box is Fall 2017.

How many boxes come in a yearly subscription?

For our initial phase of the project, a yearly subscription will include four boxes, shipped quarterly, or once every three months. Depending on the success of this campaign, we hope to increase the subscription in the future to bi-monthly, and we will keep you updated on that progress!

Can you purchase individual boxes?

Currently, the boxes are only available as a pre-ordered, full year subscription.

I have two children...do I have to order two subscriptions?

Once our new website launches, we hope to be able to offer subscription add-ons that would allow you to purchase one subscription with enough materials for two or more students. For now, please feel free to purchase one subscription. You can contact Allison at [email protected] to let her know that you are interested in adding on materials for a second child, and she will add you to a mailing list to receive updates on when that option becomes available.

I can't even draw a stick figure. Will I be able to make the art project in the box?

Yes! The mission of Art School is to convince you that you don't need to be able to draw a stick figure to make something meaningful. Our lessons are designed to help demystify the creative process, demonstrate new and unexpected ways to make art, and remove the fear of failure so you can find joy in the process. When the goal is to not to make something "pretty" but to engage with contemporary art, explore ideas, and experiment with some rad art materials, you can't fail.

Do you accept students in your classes with special needs or learning differences?

Art School seeks to provide art-making opportunities to all students. Allison has experience teaching students with a wide variety of special needs, and is happy to individualize instruction to help your student be successful. If you or your student has a particular special need, learning difference, physical disability, health issue, or behavioral concern, please contact us before or during enrollment to discuss how we can best accommodate them and ensure accessibility. The more information you can provide about your student, the more successful and enjoyable his or her experience at Art School will be!

Event Design Services

For taking Art School to the next level, Allison will provide her Event Design services to help you execute the creative vision for your event! Allison has consulted with brides and event coordinators on everything from invitation design, linens and color selections, room layout, floral design, lighting, and custom event art installations. This package includes a two-hour design consultation (in-person or via Skype), a custom style guide to focus your ideas and communicate them to your vendors, and EITHER: a custom, hand-lettered sign for your event OR up to three hours of additional in-person or phone consultations to ensure your event looks perfect.

Event Design Services with Day of Assistance

For contributors in the Nashville area, Allison will provide all the Event Design Services at the $750 Level PLUS day-of assistance at your event! Allison or one of her experienced design consultants will provide up to four hours of on-site assistance at venues within 35 miles of downtown Nashville. On-site assistance includes supervision of all visual elements, including coordinating with vendors and ensuring your event looks the way you've planned it. Unfortunately, we cannot coordinate with food and beverage service vendors, or assist with corralling your wedding party people.
