After 16 years in the financial services industry, Cate Luzio made the decision to disrupt her career, leverage her entrepreneurial skills and global experience to start her own company. Luminary was founded in March 2018, and is a community of professional, empowered women with a physical space for them to work, develop and connect. Luminary will open its doors at the end of 2018.
Most recently Cate was Executive Vice President and Global Head of Multinational Corporate Banking for Global Commercial Banking (CMB) at HSBC, one of the world’s largest banks. In this role Cate was responsible for roughly $2B in revenue and teams globally in 55 countries developing and strengthening HSBC’s subsidiary coverage of multinationals (MNCs) for all their banking needs. She joined HSBC in December of 2014, based in New York.
Prior to joining HSBC, Cate spent over 6 years in London with J.P. Morgan Corporate and Investment Banking as a Managing Director and the Head of Multinational Corporate Banking across Europe, the Middle East & Africa.
Previous roles at Bank of America saw Cate responsible for merger activities in Brazil, Chile, Uruguay and Argentina. Whilst at MBNA she was responsible for market entry into Mexico. Her early career saw her working in the High Tech/Telecom industry, working in China, setting up joint ventures with local Corporates and Telecoms in China.
Cate holds a master’s Degree in International Relations from Georgetown University and a bachelor’s degree from University of Maryland in Political Science.
Cate has held several Executive Sponsor positions for various diversity and women’s groups in her career most recently as an Executive Sponsor for Balance, HSBC Women's Network as well as the Commercial Banking Women's Connection. Whilst at J.P. Morgan she was Executive Sponsor for WIN (Women’s Interactive Network) across EMEA and was the Executive Sponsor for the Women’s MD Forum as well.
Cate is also a National Board member for Girls Inc., WaterAid America, and until the end of 2017, she served on the Board of the US-Mexico Chamber of Commerce. She is actively involved in various women’s focused charities and organizations.
Cate was named Top 25 Women to Watch in American Banker for 2015, 2016, and 2017. She also received the Financial Times Global Diversity Champion HERoes Award in 2017 and has been nominated again in 2018. Cate has been featured in various publications and media including the Financial Times, Wall Street Journal, American Banker, Women’s Wear Daily, USA Today, CNBC and Bloomberg.
Cate lives in New York and loves to travel, visiting 109 countries and counting. She is focused on advocacy and action for gender parity and is passionate in using her voice to empower women and girls.
