If only there was a world where women didn't have to fight to be seen or heard.
A world where they are taught as young girls, that they weren't taking up too much space and that they were not in the way. A world where they could wear what they want and move about freely, free of harassment. A perfect world where women are shown respect, treated equally, feel safe, and are trained like the warriors they are to prepare for all the mental and physical battles they may encounter either in the ring or out.
WELCOME TO OUR WORLD!
Women's World of Boxing is a New York City's first and only women's boxing gym. It is owned, operated, and created by a woman to provide a safe space for women and girls to explore the sport of boxing. Our boxing family consists of over 100 members ages 8-84 from all different fitness and competitive levels who empower and inspire one another to be our best selves while making every round better than the last.
TAKING THE FEAR OUT OF THE FIGHT
For the 70yr old woman who's always wanted to try boxing, to the 8yr old girl who was "born to fight," going into a coed boxing gym can be a very daunting experience. It is our mission to provide real technical boxing training to females of all ages in a safe environment, to remove the fear of starting something new, to encourage and reinforce to them that they are already Champions!
FIGHT LIKE A GIRL
Women's World of Boxing is more than just a boxing gym, it's a family that plays a huge role in our East Harlem community. In seeing the need to provide more outlets for the young girls in our underserved community, we offer the WWB Girl's Club, our after school Boxing-Mentoring program for girls ages 12-17 that meets after school every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. During that time, we close the gym to adults to provide a safe space for the girls to train, bond, and build their own supportive community.
WHAT WE'RE ABOUT
Women's World of Boxing is about servicing people in need of a safe space to find their balance, build their courage, and find their fight. In addition to our after school girls boxing program, we've teamed up with local Neurologist Jose Cabassa, M.D. to create our Fighting Parkinson's Program that allows Dr. Cabassa to track and treat his patients while training. This patiently instructed program provides support and training while bringing a community together that's sharing in the same fight.
Something else we're about at Women's World of Boxing is supporting other women in male dominated industries, which is why we've created 'Jokes & Jabs' our quarterly all female comedy showcase. Women performing comedy in a boxing ring, looking out into a boxing gym created by a woman for women, free of hecklers, provides a safe space for them to practice their craft while experiencing greatest sense of empowerment they've ever felt while performing.
WHAT'S IT ALL FOR?
Due to COVID-19 we have been closed for two months without aid from the stimulus package, or cash reserves with no incoming revenue while the rent, utilities and operating costs are still due. Your support will allow us to:
• Reopen And Remain In Business
• Catch Up On Back Rent And Utilities
• Hire Support Cleaning Staff
• Expand Our After School Program
• Provide More Training Support For Our Fighting Parkinson's Program
