Project Description
What is WOMANISH?
WOMANISH at its core is a movement that brings together people of all backgrounds to cultivate community, encourage conversations, and break single definition stereotypes of being a woman. We do this by creating thought provoking fun experiences that leave you challenging your perspectives! A place where all are welcomed and women are celebrated!
What's Inside?
Step into a 5-story, 30,000 sq ft imaginative wonderland in the heart of downtown Chicago. Your adventures will start in a 1950's diner! Come color your way through our Childish room, dance your heart out in our Partyish room, flirt with censhorship in our Censorship room, and much more!
What is the impact?
Womanish has thrown smaller events around Chicago creating sisterhood moments where women shared their life experiences, journeys, and so much more. We have been able to create spaces where women felt safe and comfortable telling their stories. Our big event is nothing short of that. Now, more than ever, people need a place where they can come to connect, and have fun while still being being safe.
Our space goes beyond an instagrammable room and layers on real underlying issues affecting women that need to be spotlighted in a creative way. Womxn deserve to be celebrated! It's a movement that inspires womxn to follow their dreams, and to be unapologetically themselves. No matter what your ish is!
Who is behind Womanish?
Womanish is 100% female black owned by two amazing sisters! Together they built an amazing team of diverse women. WOMANISH has been totally concepted and produced by women!
Covid 19- Plan
WOMANISH, was set to make it's debut during International Women's Month in March 2020. However Covid had different plans. Due to the nature of our event (small groups entering at assigned time slots), our space is Covid safe. We will be temperature testing, ensuring everyone is social distanced, and cleaning after every session!!
Why Crowdfunding?
We were fortunate to be able to pay all of our employees for all of their time and energy put into helping WOMANISH come to life. With that being said, we took a HUGE hit because we were not able to offset costs with ticket sales. By donating you would be helping us to keep our employees on board and paid fairly. In addition to supporting a good cause and a black owned business. We have over 30 people helping out with this experience from artists to part time employees!

What is WOMANISH?
WOMANISH is a movement that pushes the boundaries of socio-political norms by provoking curiosity through stimulating, creative experiences that leave you challenging your perspective of womanhood.
What’s up with the “x” in the word “womxn”?
The word “womxn” (spelled with an “x”) represents all forms of women and non-binary people—women who don’t necessarily conform to a stereotypical, gendered female.
What can visitors expect from the WOMANISH Exhibit in 2020?
Step into a 5 story experience in the heart of downtown Chicago. Your journey will start by walking though a 1950's diner and send you off into a world that explores perspective in a creative way. Color your way through our Childish room, follow paper planes to a holographic dimension in our Vanish room, dance your heart away in our Partyish room, and much more!!
On top of the beautiful art installations, we will have some amazing programming happening in space as well!! It will be a unique, 60-day experience for Chicago featuring artists who use their art to support womxn. Guests can expect a Covid-19 safe, thought provoking, fun space to explore.
How does one join the movement and participate?
Everyone can participate by engaging with us on social, becoming a contributor through this platform and coming to our WOMANISH Exhibit launching August 3d!! Most importantly, one can participate by joining these important conversations and celebrating womxn! #WeAreWomanish
Can men be a part of the movement?
Of course! WOMANISH is for everyone to come have fun! We love it when men show up to have fun and celebrate womxn. Everyone has thoughts about what womxn’s perspectives are. We all come from womxn and have close relationships with womxn—mothers, daughters, adopted families, sisters, friends. Men will connect with these perspectives too because of the womxn in their lives, The goal (for everyone) is to gain an understanding of other peoples’ perspectives and celebrate one another.

What kind of artists will be exhibiting their work at the WOMANISH Exhibit?
National and local talent of all mediums including, but not limited to, music, scenic photo installs, traditional art, muralists, designers, theatrical groups, dance, solo show exhibitions, and more.

• Every donor of this amount will receive a ticket to go to the event + 1 programming event of their choosing.
Your contribution will go towards creating a space in Chicago that cultivates love, community, and celebrates women.
