Project Description

Whether you are a unwavering idealist or a pragmatic capitalist, the future of consumerism is ethical.

Who is the Ethical Consumer?

The Ethical Consumer buys products that are ethically produced (fair wages, safe working conditions) and not harmful to the environment (no toxins, less pollution, low carbon footprint). They are younger (think GenX and Millennials). They are global. They are connected through technology. They think companies should care about climate change and the environment. Increasingly, they are vegan. And they are willing to pay more for products and services that are socially responsible.

While shopping for fair trade and organic food and beverages has become easier with the rise of local cooperatives and urban farming and the acquisition of Whole Foods by Amazon, the ease of making ethical purchases for other items like clothing, accessories, bodycare and household items remains challenging. Consumers must frequent multiple websites and scour blogs for brand directories to make buying decisions.

The Solution?

An aggregator site (think kayak, but for ethical products) that brings all the ethical products and companies together in one place.

  •

At People Heart Planet we offer a platform that (1) makes it easy to find and buy ethical products and (2) connects people with information about the ethical consumer lifestyle and transformation. We define ethical as brands and companies that are fully committed in their mission and practices to promoting fair trade and/or sustainability. We also include fair trade and sustainable brands that are vegan and organic. Unlike other fashion platforms, we only work with companies and brands that align with the ethical consumer's values of treating people fairly and respecting the planet.

All brands on our site are vetted by us and must meet the criteria of being either fair trade or sustainable. Some of the brands on the site are also vegan and organic. We use easy to identify icons to share this brand information with users.

As we mentioned, we're different from other ethical sites as we are an aggregator and not a traditional marketplace that has to deal with the costs of logistics. Just like with other aggregator sites that have grown in popularity, users are redirected to the brand/company's site to complete a sale. Because we are an aggregator site, we can offer users more buying options and easier shopping as everything is in one place. And, most importantly, we have the capacity to have thousands and thousands of products and brands on our site.

Our platform www.peopleheartplanet.com just launched in March 2021, and now we are on a mission to build the world's largest and best ethical shopping site.

About the Co-Founders

We are two women. One American. One Indian. We met in Singapore while both volunteering for a climate change NGO. We connected over our ethical consumer journeys. Our company is legally based in the US, while we are physically located in the US and Singapore.

Stages Of Growth

While our PeopleHeartPlanet community is global, our current focus for brand recruitment and marketing is the US. We will expand region by region in the following order: Singapore, Canada, Europe, Australia, India, the rest of Asia, Africa and South America. Simultaneously, we will expand our product offering in the following stages: bodycare, homecare/household supplies, toys/games, outdoor gear, electronics.

Target Markets

We are targeting our marketing and outreach efforts to the following market segments:

-Womxn between the ages of 40 and 60, college-educated, healthy lifestyles (organic, chemical-free, natural home).

-Womxn between the ages of 20 and 40, college-educated, cause-driven (climate change, racial justice, human rights)

-Activist Men and Womxn who are deeply engaged in environmental, economic and racial justice campaigns.

Strategic Vision

At PeopleHeartPlanet, we are doing more than building a platform.  We are joining a growing movement for economic, environmental and racial justice. And we are inspiring others to join us too. In 2018, this is the email I sent to the assembled PHP team.

"For the past six months, I've been talking to people about the idea of PeopleHeartPlanet, and so many times I was asked: why don't you just get started on your own? My response has consistently been that this is not a solo kind of thing. Not only is it important that we build team that inspires one another, shares values and has the skills and creativity to bring this to life, but that this be the driving force behind the entire company. Alone, we can build an amazing company. But if we involve the users and take our direction from them, we can build a community that advances a movement."

Our vision is to add interactive features which make it easy for users/community members to find one another, meet up with another, launch organizing campaigns in their communities and join with existing campaigns in their states, countries and around the world.

How the Funding Will Be Used

Funding will be used for the following:

- To hire a contract employee who will upload 100 more brands and their products in the next three months, as well as maintain the product database by running quality checks on all product links;

- To make technology enhancements that will allow for product filtering by size, color and style;

- To add secondary verifications for brands on the site (i.e. GoodonYou and Fairify ratings);

- To add features to the site such as: search brands by country/region; filter by shipping; currency conversions; and find ethical stores in your area;

- To increase awareness through Instagram and Facebook ads.

Will You Join The Movement?

Thank you so much making a contribution to the future of PeopleHeartPlanet. We hope you will do more than this! We hope you will take the time to connect with us and tell us what inspired you to give. We want to know where you are at in your ethical consumer journey. Would you share your story with others? Can we feature you in an interview? Every person's story can inspire another person to make a small change that positively impacts people and the planet. And all of these millions of small acts will change the world for the better!

The Campaign FAQs

1) How do I search and buy products?

A simple search on PeopleHeartPlanet brings together products and prices directly from your favorite ethical fashion brands. This means we gather your options and put them all in one place so you can compare items from various brands and either buy them immediately or save them to your favorites list to buy later on.

2) How does pricing work?

Prices come straight from the ethical fashion brands’ sites with no extra fee from us. When you’ve selected a product, it’s the brand or merchant who pays us for linking you to their site, not you. While we always strive to have the most accurate and up-to-date information, there can be inaccuracies. Sometimes it’s because the brand or merchant isn't updating their inventory with us or hasn’t connected to our site properly. Sometimes it’s because another user has just purchased the last available item and the inventory hasn’t updated. We apologize for any errors that occur and will continue to work hard to have the most up-to-date information possible. If you have any issues at all, please do get in touch with us via our Contact Us form.

3) How do we list results?

There are several factors that go into how we list results after you start a search. To be sure you’re finding the products you really want, we have filters to help refine your search.

4) What Ethical Brand categories do we include?

We use easy-to-identify icons to let you know which companies are committed to the following ethical standards and practices: fair trade, sustainable, vegan and organic. We categorize brands and not products. For more information about what each of these icons mean, click here to read our ethical brands glossary.

5) How do we work with ethical fashion brands?

We have contractual partnerships with most of the ethical brands that can be seen in our results. If you’re a company that’s interested in working with us, check out our Partner With Us page.

6) Which ethical fashion brands do we work with?

To check out the full list of ethical fashion brands we include in our search, click here to see our ethical brands list.

Since every skilled artisan has their own process, each slipper they create has a unique look and feel. Every pair is finished with natural latex soles and glue sustainably harvested from rubber trees to make these shoes eco-friendly from top to bottom.
