Dear supporters of Project Voice,
The overwhelming success of Project Voice's 2020 Rising Voices Scholarship Program has made me realized that we can continue doing so much more good to the world with our wallets. The results from our first crowdfunding campaign have pushed me to ask, "This year, we were able to support our scholarship recipients, mentors, and freelancers. Next year, how can we keep this momentum going? How can we continue to support marginalized communities through financial means as Project Voice, especially as a response to not one national crisis, but three (healthcare, economy, and racial injustice)?"
Recently, I stumbled upon the idea of starting our own giving circle. According to Wikipedia, "a giving circle is a form of participatory philanthropy where groups of individuals donate their own money or time to a pooled fund, decide together where to give these away to charity or community projects and, in doing so, seek to increase their awareness of and engagement in the issues covered by the charity or community project. Many circles, in addition to donating their money, also contribute their time and skills to support local causes."
In other words, Project Voice will be spearheading a giving circle as our second philanthropic project in 2021. While taking courses on starting a giving circle in Philanthropy Together's LaunchPad program, I am currently seeking donors dedicated to giving forward to our Asian diasporic community and allies. The organizations that we are looking to fund do not have to be specifically Asian-American, but they can be. Recipients of the Project Voice Giving Circle's funds will be chosen by the committee members and all funds will be given in the form of grants.
In order to be a committee member, you must be able to donate at least $100 to the giving circle and commit 1-2 hours of your time per month (please indicate your interest in the form!). Your time commitment will go towards event planning, marketing, fundraising, and research. I will get back to you in mid-January 2021 for membership registration information.
