Our First Week.. Yay!

Hey everyone! I hope this update finds you well! I just wanted to say a BIG thank you to everyone who has donated so far! Your support means a lot and I greatly appreciate the amount that you were able to invest, so thank you so much!

This is a big idea and journey that I'm going on, which is both scary and exciting haha but I'm so happy to be doing this project.

Last week, I went into San Juan County, Utah (there are seven Navajo chapters/communities in this area) there were census events that were being held at different locations throughout the week to help individuals and families who do not have access to the internet or needed assistance to complete the 2020 census, which is so important!

Right now, only about 18% of the population on the Navajo Nation has filed their census, and we have over 350,000 living on the rez, so that's only about 17,000 people counted in the census, which is not a lot. There were different organizations working together to make registering easier and accessible. They were also using this opportunity to register people to vote. Oh, and yes CDC and Navajo Nation Covid-19 guideline/protocols were followed, just in case you were wondering.

It was a great opportunity to meet and talk with people on this part of the reservation and hear their stories! Utah Navajos have faced so much when it comes to discrimination and racism, but we don't hear much about on the rest of the Navajo Nation or beyond, so it's very critical and important to me to include this in the docu-series.

I was able to connect with a few people from organizations and families and I'm currently in the process of scheduling interviews with them! I don't want to give too much away but I also wanted to share where we are with things!

So that's it for now, thank you again to those who have donated and shared this project! And if you can, please share this campaign and/or invest what you can, every bit counts! I will continue to post updates as things move along, on here and on my social media so give me a follow at the links provided on the campaign page.

Again, stay safe and well during this time. Sending you all good thoughts.
