NYC schools will close, Mayor de Blasio announced earlier today. The number of confirmed cases in NYC is growing rapidly and the only method of containment is social distancing. New York City is one of the largest school system in the country.
This decision is necessary, as educators will undergo training this week to prepare students for remote learning. In the mean time, teaching artists are struggling to determine whether they will receive pay during this time. Most DYCD and SONYC arts programs are administered by non-profit organizations that are not equipped or prepared for this change.
