Project Description

TheEduProject is a nonprofit education organization that supports schools, teachers, and students through professional development and personalized curriculum. As we work to end educational inequality, our primary goal is to create engaging personalized learning classrooms, focused schools, and strategic school systems to address educational gaps in learning specifically for students of color.

Our mission is to help students achieve more with an authentic curriculum that stretches them, that supports teachers with high quality training, and guides districts with stronger leadership, and improved systems.

The Problem:

A recent study by Missouri State University shared that only 28% of curriculum companies address socio-economic disadvantages and only 14% address geographic disadvantages; which has caused a very detrimental 70% Curriculum Gap when it comes to students of color. Thus impacting student interest in learning in schools, lack of student engagement and poor academic performance.

The Market:

Schools are more segregated today than they were in the 1960's because of racial and socioeconomic segregation pushes low-income students and students of color into under-resourced schools. The need to create curricula and professional learning opportunities for teachers is greater than ever. The oversight of using instructional strategies and offering students greater learning opportunities is recognized by many, but only a few are engaging in methods that come to readying students for the jobs of the future. America’s K-12 education system too often does not sufficiently prepare Black, Latinx, and Indigenous students. Research has shown that this negatively affects these students’ life outcomes, specifically in terms of learning opportunities.

Our Solution?

We cannot return to the classroom and do the same things we’ve always done and expect to see a different outcome. For the past 2 years we have been working shoulder to shoulder with teachers, parents, educators, and community members, in supporting the academic and personal growth of students. Our solution is not to make a textbook digital, not to go full laptop/tablet, but rather to use authentic experiences, the real world to maximize learning. More than half of today’s districts/teachers buy premade curricula resources on common teacher sites or teach from a textbook making it very difficult to diversify perspectives. Our team creates curricula rooted in student-centered instructional strategies, personally developed with teachers in guiding learning to develop more independency as learners, demonstrate better problem-solving skills, and to apply what they learn in class in real-life contexts. theEduProject will use this critical moment in education to radically rethink how programs, policies, and opportunities are designed and be fiercely committed to prioritizing the communities most impacted.

Why are you seeking funding and how will you spend the funding?

theEduProject vision is to create a space where students do not just passively take in information but actively make sense of the world around them; by constantly understanding, challenging, and forming new ideas and experimenting with these ideas. Understanding the lack of funding for college and career preparation and a lack of partnerships between K-12, higher education, theEduProject desires to offer  scholarship based professional learning opportunities for districts, teachers, and educational leaders/ partners. One of our equity goals is to work together to clarify future workforce changes and help students, teachers, and families build career knowledge. Funding will help create curriculum units, resources, programs, and workshops to develop students holistically by strengthening their academic and social-emotional skills.

Who is on your team;

Our team of educators are educational leaders in their community working toward the day when every child will receive an excellent and equitable education.  Together with over 30years of experience, theEduProject (TEP) team have all worked in their prospective school districts as curriculum directors, specialists, and writers. We are bold, grounded leaders working together, inside and outside of schools, fighting for the aspirations of children and their families.

The TEP team's desire and commitment in the classroom fuels a lifelong commitment to teachers,  students, and parents that will continuously shape the trajectory of their lives and careers of the world around us.

Thank you:

Progress is only possible if each of us works effectively across lines of difference. Thank you for supporting our vision and funding the future of learning. Together we will solve the most pressing issue in education that requires collaboration between educators, the community, and the workforce. Our hope is to overcome the challenges by delivering equitable training for teachers and learning experiences for students. Thank you again for your generosity.
