Project Description
Create fantastical, high-fashion gowns with half-scale sewing patterns. Practise and perfect your dressmaking skills in a way that is affordable, convenient and allows for creativity.
If you've ever tried to make an evening gown you know full well it takes an excessive amount of time, effort and cost in materials.
Also, there is a lack of home sewing patterns teaching high-fashion designs to seamstresses serious about the craft. Ones that are available are geared to the beginner or hobby sewer. Designs are simplified and lack speciality. Threadora will offer a modern couture-inspired approach to the home sewing pattern.
By using a half-scale design method it reduces all aspects of the construction process by, well, half! Patterns are easier to work with, less material is used and wasted, and you have more time to spend on your creative avocation. Because it's proportional, you are still able to witness how they fabric drapes as if it were full scale. Any level of sewing skill will benefit from practising using this method.
Your pre-order purchase and support will help with the cost of:
- creating the original and digital patterns
- developing garment samples
- hiring professionals to create stunning final dress photos
- making the instructions, graphics, sketches etc. that are included with each pattern.
- creating a new website with a content delivery system built-in.
- update video software and technology to create better instructional videos.
Our goal is to release 12 patterns in batches of 3 throughout the year. Depending on the response and amount of funding we receive here we can increase that number of designs exponentially.
Britney King is the owner and designer of Threadora Gowns. She began her career designing custom bridal, bridesmaid dresses and evening wear. In recent years her Youtube channel on sewing, vintage and fashion has gained popularity because of her insightful instruction of dressmaking techniques.

When will I receive my pattern/patterns?
Our tentative launch date for the first set of patterns is January 2020. Pre-Ordering will give you early access by at least a month, so you can test, try and love the patterns before anyone else.
How many patterns will come out in a year?
We are planning to release patterns quarterly (every three months) with at least three dress designs per set. This schedule gives you choice and enough time to complete your dress before the next release. It will also allow us time in between to prepare the next collection.
Why Half-scale and not full-sized patterns we can wear?
It's simple. The purpose of these patterns is for practising your sewing technique. Half-scale will take you less time and less material while still experiencing the dressmaking steps of a full-sized dress.
What can I expect in terms of sewing instructions?
Each pattern will include your digital pattern, which is easy to print at home. Illustrated instructions step-by-step, and access to a video walkthrough series so you can see the process first-hand. You also will have access to a private Facebook group, acting as your 24/7 support from myself and others making the same project.
What do I do with the dress afterwards?
That's completely up to you! Keep it for display or reference, so when you ask yourself how did I do that fell-stitch on the lining? You'll be able to have a visual reference. You'll also have forever access to the video lesson as well. We are also planning regular contests for submitting creative photos of your final product.
