Project: We Build - 2021

High poverty rate coupled with lack of access to education deeply affects the children and families that we seek to serve in Sierra Leone and the world at large. 33million African school aged children do not have access to education. 35% of these in school are not quite able to read and write despite years of attending school, and 42% of same drop out of school by the end of their fifth grade or before completing their primary/elementary schooling.

With the national literacy rate projecting at 43.3%, and more than 33% of school aged children being out of school due to lack of access to education, Sierra Leone is ranked eleventh on the list of countries with the lowest literacy rate in the world. An exceeding 72% of this population is also living in extreme poverty with less than $1 per day to live on.

In light of the above and in a bid to help young women and children that have been abused and neglected, we're bringing up a campaign; a school building fundraiser project dubbed "We Build - 2021." It would be one targetting at least $5,500 to erect a learning structure as part of our school building project. The fundraiser would be officially launched on the 1st of March and will span on to the 15th of May so as to make room for adequate time to realise our fund raising expectation before the rains set in by June.

This project is one congruent with our main focus, which is to train young women in a vocational training centre and to help them in educating their children. This could be achieved by the setting up of the aforementioned structure and project underway, which will cater for the needs of both young women and their children through the establishment of a vocational training centre and preschool respectively that'll educate and upskill them.

Aside the at least $5,500 target we're trying to raise, we are also asking for donations that could be made in kind such as personal hygiene stuffs; like sanitary pads and bathing soap among others; educational utilities such as note books, pen, pencils, drawing or colouring books, crayons; home economics equipments like sewing machines, thread, needles, scissors, cake mixers, etc. So, why not take action and join us today as we lift young women and children out of poverty through the power of education - one student at a time?
