Project Description

Our mission is to create positive change by leveraging the entrepreneurial spirit to inspire our clients and partners to transform the workforce through innovative, impactful and successful businesses. The Incubator Nest Hub exists for the sole purpose of supporting and helping develop micro and small businesses by helping them survive and scale up during the startup period by connecting them to the mentorship, knowledge, resources, and the networks they need to succeed.

The COVID-19 impact on the informal settlements comprising women in domestic work and micro small businesses. The draft 2020 Budget Policy Statement for Kenya estimates that some 10 million people out of the country’s population of 47 million live in slums across the country. The project aims at working with local community based health centres in conjuction with the government at primary healthcare level,to increase the number of covid-19 tests done to women in the informal settlement to reduce infection and proper diagnosis among women lead households.

Women from the informal settlement are often not able to afford to test for Covid-19 and government hospitals are only dealing with urgent cases. The women, often visit local dispensaries that misdiagnose Covid-19 due to lack of diagnosis equipment at primary health care centres. The women will often visit the next level hospital critical and often their businesses often suffer.

The proposed solution is to partner with government, primary healthcare facilites and labs to be able to test samples from the primary healthcare facilities. We will also partner a digital solar fridge local solution incubated by the hub to use the solar fridges for community vaccination. We will also offer 3 day business training to the women and provide them with seed capital of fifty dollars to grow their business.

BENEFITS OF THE PROJECT Economic empowerment Early diagnosis qof covid-19 Reduce the cost of healthcare expenditure due to covid-19.

COSTS OF THE PROJECT Direct Cost: $ 75,000 Indirect Cost: $1000 Payment terms should be further discussed

OUR ACTION PLAN This pilot will last 6 months and will target the Kibera slums. We will target 500 women whose economic lives have been affected by covid-19.This project is expected to start by June 2021 when the weather is cold in Kenya and alot of women and their children have common colds.
