BlackExcellence.com is a digital platform dedicated to sharing unique, empowering and thought provoking stories in the Black community.
It is no surprise that a lot of Black stories are left out of the mainstream media. Watching cable news or visiting any number of news sites, even Black news sites, one might be lead to believe that Black people exist only in the world of police brutality and the world of celebrity.
Even though those worlds are important to report on, the Black experience in America is much more diverse and intricate than that.
That’s where BlackExcellence.com comes in.
Our focus is in telling unique, empowering, and thought-provoking stories in the Black community.
The phrase Black Excellence means the practice of being a self-starter and a community leader to us.
That's why we took it up on our selves to fill a gap we saw in the stories that are being told about our communities.
Social activists, entrepreneurs, devoted parents, those pursuing unconventional lifestyles dedicated to achieving the greater good,...all represent Black Excellence to us.
In the past 3 years, we have built up a modest audience that is hungry for the type of stories we create. We currently have over 7,500 email subscribers, 40,000 monthly website visitors, and over 45,000 followers on our various social media pages.
Now, it’s time to expand our operation.
That’s where you come in.
With the limited capital we had, we have been able to share countless stories that have inspired, educated, and entertained. We brought together a small number of writers and filmmakers from across the country and gave them a platform to share stories that matter the most to them.
We are now at the point where we are ready to expand and fund more content creators!
How will the funds be used?
-We will bring on freelance writers who will contribute more articles on a weekly basis in various fields across the country. About 30% of the funds we raise will go directly into this expense.
-We will fund filmmakers in cities like Chicago, Atlanta, and New York to capture the diverse stories that are taking place in their communities. About 50% of the funds we raise will go towards compensating talented filmmakers for their time and efforts.
-The rest of the fund, about 20%, will be used to expand our audience. We believe the more people we reach, the more effective and powerful our work will become. We plan to accomplish this by funding various advertising campaigns that will bring our videos and articles to places where they might be needed the most.
What better way to have the people you’re serving be the people that are also giving you the funds to keep going?!
We believe crowdfunding will be the best way to fund our stories so that no corporation or brand can have control over what we expose and analyze.
