Project Description

  • MISSION: is to enhance the lives, care, and support for our female veteran community. We provide the resources they need to regain their self-esteem, trust, honor, and dignity so that they can achieve their greatest potential.

  • VISION: is to address, educate, coordinate, and provide aid and relief to eradicate homelessness and provide services to female veterans in need on a local level.

  • SCOPE OF WORK: Female Veterans are an underserved community that is growing every day. These women have selflessly volunteered their lives for ours so that we can enjoy our freedoms. But in doing so, many have come back to us troubled. Many have Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Military Sexual Trauma (MST), and suffer from feelings of institutional betrayal. Facing some, if not all, of these challenges, some female Veterans cope by isolating themselves and/or by using alcohol and/or drugs to deal with the trauma and/or pain. Some don’t make it and become another statistic. More and more, our female Veterans are reporting what they have endured during their time of service, but often the damage is already done. There is a great need for these women to get the help that they deserve. Therefore, I have chosen to continue my mission to help these wonderful, brave women move past their traumas and live their lives to the fullest.

There are many issues our female Veterans face when they come to us for help. Common issues that occur following MST, PTSD, and institutional betrayal are depression, anxiety, guilt and shame, suicidal ideation, substance use, inability to maintain healthy relationships, sexual dysfunctions, and homelessness.

Women Warriors Program hypothesis is that if we provide effective individual and group therapy, progressive nutritional and holistic therapies, proactive social and occupational training, and effective case management, our female Veterans receiving this support will be able to live independently in the community. Women Warriors has already assisted over 385 female Veterans with haircuts, makeovers, massages, hygiene, clothing, and food. 56 female Veterans with emergency financial assistance. With your help, we can help more.

  • THE NEEDWomen Warriors serves the at-risk female Veteran community in Southern Arizona. These women come in off the streets, from shelters, and/or from the treatment program center at Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS). Women Warriors is also available to the women veterans who are in the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development and Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing Program, Primavera Project Action for Veterans, the Women’s Clinic, and female Veterans who are living at Esperanza En Escalante transitional housing for Veterans. SAVAHCS social workers also inform their female Veterans about Women Warriors for assistance. Commonalities shared by these women include mental health issues such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), military sexual trauma, substance use disorder, and/or homelessness. PTSD and other mental health issues can make maintaining employment difficult for Veterans and dramatically increase the risk of homelessness.

  • EXPECTED OUTCOMES:
    • Help eradicate homelessness.
    • Provide female veterans with the services and resources needed to maintain a stable and healthy life to achieve their highest potential.
    • Provide case management with action plans, financial education, resume building, and interviewing skills.
    • Provide a safe place for individual and/or group therapy.
    • Serve as a physical location to bring together the veteran female community in a supportive and safe environment, facilitating friendships and peer support.
  • FUNDING: We are seeking funding so that we are able to continue our mission in helping our local female Veteran community. These funds will help us keep the location we already so that we can continue to have groups, classes, a pantry, free haircuts/makeovers, and a space to open our thrift boutique so that our Veterans can get their interview clothing, business clothing along with accessories and make it feel like a shopping experience. We also have an office in Sierra Vista, Arizona where we assist over 47 female Veterans.
  • TEAM: Volunteers will comprise an integral component of Women Warriors and Wendy's Collection Boutique and will include female Veterans previously assisted by Women Warriors, helping to provide a sense of accomplishment and belonging.
  • THANK YOU: Women Warriors would like to express our sincerest gratitude for helping serve those who served.
