When I was pregnant with our daughter Gaia (aka Gigi), like most women I know, I couldn’t take anything in the maternity aisle. Settling for my normal clothes, just in larger sizes, my body eventually screamed for more support. So in 2021, we started For Me Maternity (FMM), one of the first Black-woman owned maternity lines in the world. Learning from my experiences, and with our culture in mind, FMM offers the best maternity robes on the market!

Despite a $12.2 billion market size, millennial women are disappointed with current maternity wear options. Lack of imagination and accommodation for the challenges of post-partum, along with dowdy styles, are all reasons why women avoid the genre entirely. In other words, women hate what they’re buying. Imagine if they didn’t?!

As a “mommy-centered” company, FMM was launched to offer comforting solutions from a unique perspective. Consulting with new and experienced moms, FMM delivers high performance, fashionable maternity robes that function to meet the unique needs of mom's changing body. For example, FMM  is one of the first maternity brands to introduce temperature cooling to maternity wear. With “hot flashes” listed as a major complaint, this thoughtful addition is a game changer. Other features include:

• Magnetic mock-pockets that open for nursing or pumping access
• Zipper pockets, with one large enough to secure the Medella portable breast pump
• Satin-lined hood to keep hair healthy and hydrated

With so many women's rights in jeopardy, and maternal deaths disproportionately affecting Black women, I believe FMM has emerged at just the right time. Today, more women are rejoicing in their pregnancies and looking to support others in doing so. We are receiving care and support from our partners, friends, families, and doulas!! And most important, we are loving on ourselves. I found FMM because “I get it” and with one look at our robes, moms will know we got them too!

We are also proud to say that a percentage of every robe will support maternal health research and birthing centers around the country. 

As we prepare for our pre-order launch, we are crowdfunding to protect our intellectual property. With over five patents pending, FMM is truly bringing something new to the market. With IFW funding, FMM can secure the appropriate legal team to prevent trademark and patent infringements and aggressively protect our design.
