SOTRO is a first-of-its-kind collapsible hair steamer engineered to bring salon-quality results into the comfort of your home. This portable and storage-friendly solution allows you to reap the maximum hair health benefits from your favorite hair treatments, conditioners, and masks. 

SOTRO was created to fill a need in at-home haircare. Professional results are difficult to replicate when steam treating hair at home. Existing professional steamers and dryers are too bulky and cumbersome to store or travel with. Additionally, sanitizing professional steamers and dryers is too complicated and difficult. With the SOTRO steamer, anyone can have a salon-grade haircare experience and maximize their hair moisturizing routine from the comfort of anywhere in their home. 

SOTRO will build a curated lifestyle brand appealing to individuals seeking to achieve their optimal hair care/growth goals along with those freelance styling professionals looking to optimize their earning potential by increasing appointment value in providing added services for clients they serve at home.

Our target market includes DIY hair enthusiasts (particularly those with kinky, coily, or curly hair), freelance hairstylists, and hair salon owners.  Hair steam gently raises the hair's cuticles to allow for "the good stuff" in conditioners and hair treatments to reach the entire shaft and penetrate deeper than any other conditioning method. This is especially important for keeping afro-textured and curl hair properly hydrated, healthy, and intact. Additionally, steaming assists in the detangling process for kinky, coily, and curly hair and makes the at-home styling process more manageable and less time-consuming. 

Why is SOTRO different?

Compared to the current steamers on the market, SOTRO is collapsible, self-cleaning, and is designed to be used on any surface -- such as tabletops, floors, or couches -- in order to accommodate the user's spacial living arrangement. Most consumers do not have space in their homes to store traditional salon level steamers, handheld steamers do not distribute moisture evenly or efficiently to hair, and products that deliver steam are usually subject to buildup that can be hard to clean. SOTRO tackles all those pain points and delivers a superior experience to customers. 

Why We are Fundraising?

We are seeking funding to complete the industrial design of the product and begin mass manufacturing. We are at the end stages of the product development process and this is our final milestone before taking our product to market. Your donations will help us maintain our timeline and complete the development of the product according to the original specifications. 

Who are we? 

The SOTRO is 100% black woman-owned and our executive team is made of black people who understand that curly and kinky textured hair is often ignored in the innovation of beauty tools and rarely designed with aesthetics, functionality, and experience in mind. We are natural-haired people frustrated with the options available to us and working to bring forth a tool to solve a problem we have firsthand experience with. Our team consists of hair care experts, seasoned entrepreneurs, and product design geniuses who all share a cultural perspective that allows us to build the best product for us, by us.
