The S/ashie Summit is a collaborative, inclusive and immersive experience that empowers hustlers, doers and creators to uncover their purpose and achieve financial independence despite the stigma behind creative aspirations.
Given the traditional expectations of careers for South Asians, the S/ashie Summit aims to inspire those in and beyond our network to value their creative pursuits beyond the status quo.
More than 50 percent of millennials living in the USA have a side hustle — which is enough validation for South Asians to harness their passions as well, but we do have the same access to resources, tools, expertise and mentors we can lean on?
Slashies are generally members of the millennial demographic, who choose to include various ‘side hustles’ in their professional titles to which they devote their time—in addition to their nine-to-five.
Our community thrives when more creative minds and independently-led companies join the conversation, and that’s why we ourselves are Slashies. We are a group of South Asian millennial creatives who celebrate "non-traditional" career paths and seek to redefine professional success.
The summit is an inclusive space welcoming of male allies, gender non-conforming, queer, and transgender individuals of South Asian descent.
We held our first S/ashie Summit in October 2018, where we provided a platform and created a place for South Asain creatives to level up their side hustles.
By doing so, we:
COMMUNITY: We strive to bring together a community of like-minded, creatively-motivated individuals and facilitate connections and conversation.
EMPOWERMENT: We seek to inspire individuals to believe their creative passions can be a sustainable reality and empower them with the knowledge to do so.
PASSION: We are committed to helping you cultivate your passion and your purpose with every workshop, panel and keynote.
Now in our second year, we’re looking forward to hosting 250 South Asian creatives and visionaries in New York City in mid-November. This one-day experience will bring together South Asian creatives united in their desire to build a safe, inclusive and supportive community.
To elevate this year’s summit, we’re launching two focused tracks:
We are raising money to:
-
Book, design, and transform a venue space in NYC for ~250 South Asian attendees
-
Invest in audio/visual equipment rentals and tech support to ensure a high-quality experience
-
Develop programming (keynotes, panels, workshops) tailored to the South Asian creator's needs
-
Build custom immersive art installation featuring work by up-and-coming South Asian artists
-
Create custom grab bags of swag for all summit attendees
-
Fairly compensate members of our programming, partnerships, and production teams
We have some really cool, fun rewards for you to take part in on our campaign page on the side panel. Thank you so much for supporting our growing community of Slashies.
The first-ever S/ashie Summit would not have been possible without the core team, our line-up of influential speakers and moderators, diverse vendors and sponsors, food and beverage partners, our mighty small businesses who made the swag bags better than ever, and our full house of attendees from all parts of North America.
We've taken the love, feedback and advice from our Slashie community and hope to execute a purpose-driven summit that is open and inviting to all.
