As a mom of four children with multiple food allergies, Safely Delicious® founder and owner Lisa Ragan has been cooking allergen-free since 2004. Not wanting her kids or anyone else with food allergies to feel excluded at school, birthday parties, social events, etc., she created snacks that looked and tasted similar to what others were eating, but still delicious and free of the food allergens they had to avoid. Inspired by her children and encouraged by her co-workers, she decided in November 2015 to start the company Safely Delicious, LLC and sell to the public, the snacks she had been making for her children.
The mission for Safely Delicious, LLC is to help those with food allergies feel included and welcome in social settings, especially children. We will do this by creating safe and delicious snacks that look and taste similar to what others are eating, but are free of the food allergens people need to avoid.
Safely Delicious, LLC manufactures, distributes and sells one-of-a-kind safe and delicious allergy friendly snacks that are FREE of the Top 11 Food Allergens (Wheat, Dairy, Peanut, Tree Nuts, Soy, Egg, Fish, Shellfish, Sesame, Mustard, Sulfites), and are made in a dedicated licensed commercial facility containing none of these food allergens. Safely Delicious® snack bites are also gluten-free, vegan, cholesterol-free, no artificial colors, no artificial flavors, no preservatives, low in sodium and are an excellent source of iron.
The market size and opportunity for our allergy-friendly business is quite large. The Food Allergy and Research Education Organization, estimates that up to 15 million Americans have food allergies, including 5.9 million children under age 18. That's 1 in 13 children, or roughly two in every classroom. About 30 percent of children with food allergies are allergic to more than one food.
The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention reports that the prevalence of food allergy in children increased by 50 percent between 1997 and 2011. Between 1997 and 2008, the prevalence of peanut or tree nut allergy appears to have more than tripled in U.S. children.
Journal of American Medical Associates (JAMA) Pediatrics states that the economic cost of food allergies is also reaching a peak, with families spending an estimated $25 billion per year, or about $4,184 per child.
Currently, Safely Delicious® offers 7 varieties of our products in 2 different sizes (1 oz. and 3 oz.)
We are raising money because we want to continue making a difference in the lives of those who have food allergies, especially children. The money we raise will go towards the release of a ½ ounce bag of our products. This size has been requested for the last couple of years by daycare centers, schools, youth centers, children’s hospitals, airlines, etc. and we want to make this option available so we can reach a larger market share of people needing our products.
