Conventional Burials Are Taking a Toll on Our Environment.

Each year in the U.S. conventional burials use roughly:

• 827,060 gallons of embalming fluid

• 30-plus million board feet of hardwoods (much tropical, caskets)

• 90,272 tons of steel (caskets)

• 1,636,000 tons of reinforced concrete (vaults)

• 14,000 tons of steel (vaults)

• 2,700 tons of copper and bronze (caskets).

And while cremations are erroneously thought to be greener, the fact is each year U.S. cremations, take up about the same amount of energy and have the same emissions as more than 1300 round trips to the moon.

Environmentally responsible consumers are demanding eco-friendly burial options that honor and reflect their lifestyles. In the Memphis, TN metropolitan area, there are more than 603,000 eco-conscious decision-makers and 113,000+ of them are over the age of 64. We share their demands and are committed to providing natural burial options to our community. 

Here's What We Can Do About It

Dust of the Earth Natural Cemetery will provide sustainably sourced biodegradable burial products and natural cemetery arrangements.:

1. The natural burial arrangements will restrict materials and toxins that leak into the soil and deplete our natural resources.
2. The sustainably sourced biodegradable burial products will allow the body to decompose without obstruction, enriching the soil.

These actions will aid in the conservation of natural resources, reduction of carbon emissions, protection of workers’ health, and restoration/preservation of our natural habitats.

How your fund will help?

Dust of the Earth Natural Cemetery has since been established and is currently in the seed phase. Funds raised here will be used to acquire a business loan that will allow us to purchase land and burial products that will allow us to bring this eco-friendly choice of burials to our area.
