We are on a mission to prevent childhood illiteracy and we are doing it ONE WORD AT A TIME!

OUR COMPANY

STOP READ GO is a company that provides the resources and information to help parents (and other caregivers and educators) teach their children to read from an early age – even before they start school!

All of our products are specifically designed to incorporate Reading into children's daily lives, routines and activities in a way that is more tangible, meaningful and intuitive to them:

• Tangible: Something that the child can feel with their senses.
• Meaningful: Something that is part of the child’s world.
• Intuitive: Something that is obvious or self-explanatory.

THE PROBLEM

Every year children are struggling to learn this basic skill: Reading. Many reach the 3^rd grade with poor reading skills and have a very slim probability of ever catching up. Studies have found that Reading is the best predictor of future success (in addition to Math) because all other subjects and concepts rely on a child’s ability to read fluently and do math efficiently. This is also the reason why Reading and Math are the focus of the elementary education. Not having the ability to read or reading poorly not only affects the child, but also the families, the schools, and the society as a whole. This is a big problem! The good news is that we have a solution :)

OUR SOLUTION

We want to tackle the problem before it even becomes a problem, by helping parents, caregivers and educators teach their little ones to speak and read at the same time!

The majority of children speak in full sentences by the time they reach the age of 5. Most typical 5-year-olds have a spoken vocabulary of about 10,000 words. They can tell stories, jokes and ask questions and give answers to other people’s questions.

The question I asked myself when my little one was learning to speak was: If children can speak and understand that many words, why can’t they read any of those words?

I figured out it’s because, as they were growing up, they were only exposed to the sound of the words, but they never (or very rarely), got to SEE any of the words that they were hearing during all of those very important interactions (which is how children learn to speak).

I discovered that children were just as capable of learning to read as they were to speak and that they could learn this very basic skill from an early age. This made me realize it was not a matter of ability, but more a matter of proper exposure and execution.

Our goal, at STOP READ GO, is to help bridge that gap, between the spoken world and the written world, by incorporating Reading into children’s daily lives, routines and activities, from the moment they wake up until the moment they go to sleep.

• We have labeled utensils with the words spoon, fork and knife to incorporate Reading during mealtimes.
• We have labeled toothbrushes and labeled clothes to incorporate Reading while they get ready in the mornings.
• We have adhesive labels to label things in your home (i.e. door, wall, chair, table, and many more) to incorporate Reading into everything you and your child do at home. Everywhere, every day and any time of day.
• We have Vocabulary Boxes to incorporate Reading during playtime.
