Power Pump Girls, Inc. is a social impact club connecting and mobilizing women to disrupt systems of inequity.

The problem

Millennial women want a way to make meaningful connections with one another as well as measurable impact in their communities.

The solution

Our REM System:

Rally - Power Pump Girls rallies women together to create awareness and advocacy. We create conversations about things that matter using our digital platform and merchandise as a voice. 

Educate - We provide research and subject matter experts to bridge the knowledge gap on areas of interest such as period equity, civic engagement, education & more. 

Mobilize - We create opportunities for women to volunteer, donate, and use their skill set to actualize change. Power Pump Girls members are able to connect with one another while making a collective impact on their community.  #OnlyHangWithHustlers

When I first heard of PPG, I was mesmerized. An entire social club helping women to be seen, heard, and encouraged to do great things was so amazing to me. I still struggle with anxiety and depression that keeps me from getting involved like I want to, and keeps from believing fully in my abilities, but as I work through those things, I can always look to PPG for encouragement and support and a reminder that anything is possible. It’s okay for me to be loud and confident and make waves. I’m thankful for Raina and Sherin, for all the help and kind words they’ve always given me and countless other women in LA and beyond.

I moved to Baton Rouge 2 years ago where I didn’t know anyone. I was in a job I hated, with no idea how to do things that served me and made me feel fulfilled. Before moving to Baton Rouge and finding my way into PPG, I hadn’t really known how much I could achieve, as well as how much of an impact I could bring to a city like Baton Rouge. What PPG has done

+ Launched our signature #secured. initiative with goals to eliminate period poverty and eradicate the stigma associated with menstruation. To date, we've secured the bag with over 11,000-period care products for under-served women - that's 513 worry-free periods!

+ Mobilized our network to push for support of Louisiana House Bill 328, bipartisan legislation that successfully passed and made period products and diapers exempt from local sales tax.

+ Created the #OnlyHangwithVoters campaign in partnership with a young professionals org to encourage civic engagement in the 2020 Louisiana Gubernatorial election. This election ended with the highest Black voter turnout in state history.

+ Responded to the blood shortage due to the COVID-19 pandemic by partnering with the Mayor's Office to host the Midcity Millennials Blood Drive that provided units of blood to save up to 100 lives. #OnlyHangWithDonors

+ Created movement-centric merchandise that expresses a larger message of solidarity with individuals fighting inequality, injustice, and hate. In wearing the shirts, supporters display a message that speaks volumes on behalf of anyone whose voice has ever been silenced. #OnlyHangWithAllies

Our campaign goals

Power Pump Girls has only been in existence this long because of the collective support of our members! The small, but consistent revenue we've generated thus far has kept us in operation since 2017, but we're building momentum and need funds to keep PPG moving into the future.
 

We believe Power Pump Girls has the ability to bring meaningful and measurable impact to communities across the country. We plan to scale our impact by copy + pasting our process in all your favorite cities!
 

We want to make social responsibility more tangible by bringing opportunities to your fingertips! Our digital app will not only connect PPG women to one another, it will be a platform to request and fulfill the needs of the community.
 

Funding from this campaign will allow us to package the knowledge we've acquired over the years to deliver it directly to fellow entrepreneurs and side hustlers. We also will increase educational programming on our key topics of period equity, civic engagement, women's rights + more!

We know this story because we are the story. Our experience with raising funds has been discouraging, but then we realized the way we'd grow is the same way we've always accomplished great things. With the help of our community.

Why crowdfunding?

Our organization is founded on the belief that women are better together. As a 501c3 corporation, we explored many different funding options, including private donations and grants, but at the end of the day, those options don't reflect our mission of being built by women, for women.

Power Pump Girls is our life's work and our passion for social impact is not something we’ll outgrow. We believe in the power of our community and decided to crowdfund via iFundWomen because they are a female-only platform that gets the job done.

Founders' story

It started with a pair of suede fuchsia pumps. Two little Black girls with very big dreams, Sherin Dawud and Raina Vallot founded Power Pump Girls, Inc. in 2017 with the belief that women are better together. They set out to create intentional gatherings for women to build relationships that ultimately impacted culture. From hosting social brunches to advocating for women’s rights legislation, the organization’s resume is as diverse and unconventional as its founders. As the Power Pump Girls sisterhood grew, Sherin and Raina began taking on speaking engagements and hosting opportunities to discuss topics of authenticity, community building, social impact strategy, and more. Now, considered thought leaders and social entrepreneurs, Sherin and Raina continue to challenge the status quo and empower others along the way.
