Late this March, after weeks of worrying whether or not we'd have snow for our four day shoot, and Sophie's solid vow to never write a weather dependent script again, we arrived at our upstate location, post freak blizzard with 20 inches of snow to shoot Old Habits, the short film Sophie wrote about two women, a man in a field, and a shotgun in the house. Old Habits looks at something Sophie began to think of as "Spiritual Pica". Pica is a disorder characterized by the insatiable need to ingest something that isn't good for you, often with disastrous consequences. Basically, that uncontrollable urge to do the Bad Thing that feels so good.
So, if you've ever wondered how the heck you've ended back here again, with that person, that cigarette, drink, pint of ice cream, Old Habits is the movie for you.
While wet and cold, the shoot went off with out a hitch (or that many hitches, anyway). We ended up with really exciting footage that's shaping up to have it all, including but not limited to men with matinee idol looks, girls in love, smoking guns, blood, and yes, that hot commodity these days, snow. Get 'em while you can.
Peruse below some candids:
Day One, checkin' the monitor.
Lizzie gets bloody
A view from the jib
Snow, snow everywhere, but not a drop... well anyway there's an effing lot of snow.
The Final Slate
Now that we've got the film shot, we're raising money for post production. This means editing, sound mix, color correction, music licensing, composing and recording, among other things. We here at Old Habits believe we've got something pretty fierce on our hands, and so we're prepared to offer some fierce and fun rewards. There's stuff offered at every level, and any and all contributions are appreciated. We did want to give you a peek at some of the Old Habits swag we're manufacturing 'specially for this campaign, tho. Here goes:
We're offering t-shirts and sweatshirts suitable for mens and ladies emblazoned with hand drawn images from what is generously referred to as Sophie's "Story Board" (a better word may perhaps be scrawled, but you know tomato, toMAto).
The t-shirt design looks like this:

We're also offering a hunter's tote that looks like this:

We are so excited to share this project with you. We truly believe it will be something both powerful and fun. We can't wait to get her laced up and running, and we canNOT do it with out YOUR support! Thank you from the bottom of our little black hearts. xx
