The mission of Helen Rose Skincare is to create inclusiveness within the Wellness Industry and directly support survivors of domestic violence in healing from trauma.
Helen Rose Skincare creates all-natural, vegan, eco-friendly skincare products that are designed to moisturize, heal and restore dry, damaged and irritated skin while soothing mood disruptions such as anxiety, depression, and insomnia.
Problems in the Wellness Industry That We Are Trying to Change
Self-care is an immensely important component in protecting our physical and mental health in our world of increasing uncertainty but there is a lack of representation and options for the majority of consumers as self-care is marketing primarily to the elite. Self-care is viewed and marketed as expensive indulgence only accessible to the rich and elite. People of Color are excluded from self-care marketing.
People of Color, specifically Black people, are greatly underrepresented marketing, distribution and accessibility of all-natural skincare products that are free from fillers and harmful ingredients often found in common grocery store brands. We end up waste money on mass produced skin remedies that don't work because there is a lack of education on natural skincare ingredients and benefits.
Mental Health and Scent
One in every 13 people globally have reported experiencing symptoms of anxiety and that number jumps to 1 in every 8 in the United States. There is a sense of urgency to find natural, alternative solutions to soothe commonly felt mood disruptions. As an avid advocate against domestic violence, we feel an even more urgent need to support those healing from trauma by making wellness options available in a variety of modalities.
To understand the connection between scent and emotion, we first need to mention an interesting and crucial region in our brain, called the hippocampus. The hippocampus, part of a network called the limbic system and one of the most studied parts of the brain, is associated with the processes of feelings and reacting. The hippocampus is also where short-term memories turn into long-term memories. Since smell processing is also closely related to the hippocampus, scents and emotions are tightly intertwined.
Aromatherapy is the use of organic compounds to improve your mood, mental state, or health. Research has shown that fragrances have significant measurable effects on mood, particularly eight major factors: irritation, stress, depression, apathy, happiness, sensuality, relaxation and stimulation.
How Helen Rose Skincare is Helping
To solve the lack of representation in self-care marketing, Helen Rose Skincare celebrates the diversity of all skin tones and body types. Our marketing campaigns are inclusive and showcase people of color in a way that has not been done before. This includes Black men with dark skin tones as being the headline of our visuals and highlighting Black families in a generational bond.
Our target customers see representations of themselves reflected in our marketing. This evokes a sense of connection and emotion that gives our customer a bond not felt with competing brands.
Helen Rose Skincare products long lasting deep moisture from ingredients with proven skin healing benefits. Our products are all natural and contain therapeutic grade essential oils hand picked for their ability to ground emotions, soothe symptoms of anxiety and promote restful sleep.
Our Target Market
In 2018, natural skincare sales totaled $1.6 billion and accounted for more than a quarter of overall skincare sales — up 23% from the year before. Nearly 50% of American women who use skincare reported that they were looking for natural or organic products, according to NPD.
The demand for organic cosmetic products is strong. The global natural cosmetics market size is expected to reach a value of USD 48.04 billion by 2025, increasing by 5.01% from 2019 to 2025, according to a recent report published by Grand View Research.
What We are Raising Money For
Our fundraising goals are twofold.
Goal 1 - We are raising funds for capital to scale Helen Rose Skincare's market presence and procure equipment needed to create the highest quality product for our target consumer.
Raw, natural, organic ingredients of the highest grade are required to ensure a consistent product in every handmade batch. Funds from this campaign will be used to create long-term relationships with wholesale suppliers to purchase bulk ingredients and increase profit margins. We will invest in high efficiency/low-carbon footprint production equipment to sustainably increase production capacity and keep up with growing demand.
Goal 2 - We are raising funds to support the mission of Om Thrive Foundation. Om Thrive was recently able to secure a physical space in Portland, OR. This space will be dedicated to providing free yoga and wellness classes to survivors of domestic violence and BIPOC creators serving the Portland Metro area. This space is also being used to create digital content for the Om Thrive virtual platform and as a classroom facility to host 200 hour Yoga Teacher Certification classes for people of color.
Meet the Owner
Day Bibb was born and raised in Portland, OR. She spent 20 years in her administrative career before making the leap to being a business owner. She always had the desire to create, innovate and lead and now she is realizing her true potential. She is the mother of two beautiful daughter's who she credits for giving her the idea to create her original moisturizer recipe. Day is an avid yoga practitioner and domestic violence awareness advocate.
Helen Rose Skincare was founded by Day with the intent of creating a direct funding resource for her nonprofit organization, Om Thrive Foundation. The mission of Om Thrive is to provide healing yoga and wellness resources and yoga practice to survivors of domestic violence and underserved communities of color. Day's primary focus is to provide support to underserved and underrepresented communities to promote empowerment and change.
The idea for Om Thrive came from Day's personal experience of coping with health problems resulting from physical and emotional trauma. She was also experiencing physical and mental symptoms of PTSD as a result of domestic violence. The symptoms included exhaustion, headaches, chest tightness, insomnia, and intense back spasms. The more she practiced the more she found strength in her physical AND emotional body. Om Thrive is Day's way of sharing this component of healing with communities that are severely underserved and underrepresented.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. All of the Thank you's for supporting this project and our overall mission to help people heal!
