Project Description

THE NEED

More and more women are deciding to give birth outside of the traditional hospital setting.  They seek an experience with less medical intervention and more personal influence over this beautiful and sacred process.  They typically work with a licensed midwife for caring, competent birth support.

THE TEAM

At The Midwives Childbirth Services, our mission is to empower every mama we meet to deliver her baby, her way.  Our most seasoned midwives each have over 20 years of experience helping women deliver their babies in safety and comfort, outside the traditional hospital setting.

THE PROJECT

Now we are launching the first-ever Birth Center in Napa, California, to provide yet another alternative for women who want a non-hospital birth, but prefer a professional, medically-equipped birth facility over a home delivery.

THE REQUEST

But we need your help!  Meeting our funding goal will provide the beds, linens, waterbirth tubs, supplies and other furnishings and equipment our mamas need to deliver their baby, their way.  Please help us make The Birth Center into the amazing and empowering facility we know it will be.

IN THEIR WORDS

Paula Schnebelt, our lead midwife, is licensed by the California Medical Board, and has personally attended over 1500 births across 6 counties in Northern California.  Paula's clients say things like this about their experience with her:

Paula and her team are an amazing group of loving, knowledgeable, skilled women who supported me in having the most peaceful, empowering, and magical home birth. Paula inspired confidence in my body and the birth process and I felt secure with her level-headedness and skill that everything would be okay."  - A. Koford

I can not express enough how thankful I was to have such amazing support and knowledge from Paula and team at both my son's and daughter's home births. She was calm and collected when both of my stubborn children didn't want to come out. She was quick and stern when she needed to be lol. She is full of so much knowledge and willing to share all her amazing tips and tricks! We love her so!"  -S. Thoits

I had both my babies at my home with Paula there to guide and ensure our safety. We had an amazing experience and I highly recommend her.  Throughout the whole process, Paula was an awesome partner and I still go to her today for my regular needs.  It was night and day compared to a "normal" practitioner that I was also seeing in the case any complications arose. - Anne V.

WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR YOUR SUPPORT

Thank you for visiting our site, thank you for your contribution, and and most importantly THANK YOU for supporting women in taking control of their own unique and sacred birth experience.

The Campaign FAQs

Why is it such a big deal to start a birth center?

More and more women are seeking less invasive alternatives to a traditional hospital birth.  In the US the number of home births has grown over 77% since 2004.  Birth center births have doubled over that same period.

I've never heard of a birth center before.  Is it a new concept?

No!  Birth centers have long been regarded as a viable alternative for the mother who knows she does not want a hospital birth, but would prefer not to deliver at home.

Where will my money go?

All contributions received through this site will go directly to the purchase of furnishings, equipment and supplies needed to provide our mamas with the best possible birth experience.

Who will benefit from The Birth Center?

We are located in Napa, California making us a viable childbirth resource for the mamas of Sonoma, Solano, Napa and Marin Counties.
