Democratizing Maternal Health

Mommy Brain is the only holistic maternal wellness platform for moms and birthing people to receive accessible support to pregnancy + postpartum education, expert-led guidance, and a diverse community of peers. Our mission is to democratize maternal health, making it both affordable and inclusive.

Maternal care is expensive and the average birthing person doesn't have access to the tools and resources to be their own best advocates.   

Every two minutes a woman dies due to preventable causes in pregnancy or childbirth worldwide. While in the U.S., the maternal mortality rate has consistently increased -- making it the only industrialized nation to see rising rates. There isn't equitable healthcare access – whether you look at it by race, geography, or socioeconomic status. 

There are three major contributing factors to the problem that we want to highlight: the cost, the lack of education (and sometimes misinformation), and access to treatment.

1. The physical act of birthing will cost you thousands of dollars out of pocket WITH insurance. And that's if you have a birth without complications. Now factor in "extras" like a birthing class, which averages $100, and in many places is much higher. Same for seeing a therapist or specialist such as a lactation consultant or sleep coach. This isn't feasible for the majority of the population.

2. The lack of knowledge on what to expect and what your rights are also leaves many vulnerable to unnecessary interventions and bullying. Especially Black and brown women. Black and Indigenous moms are 3-4x more likely to die in pregnancy or childbirth.

3. Inability to physically get to appointments or take a class due to lack of transportation, work demands, or no child care.
