The Wellness Industry is broken.

Every year there's a new gimmick. A new quick-fix/secret/easy solution to a growing pandemic. None of it actually helps people, none of it actually changes lives. Instead, it drags people further and further away from their true wellness goals.

The same people talking about self-love are peddling flat tummy teas. Detox smoothies are the new Slimfast bars and people still don't know if they're supposed to eat keto, paleo, or whole30, what that means, or why it matters.

But none of it's actually helping anyone.

People aren't healthy. People are dying.

I started MK Wellness because I believe there's ever been a more important time to have a voice in the wellness community backed by science, education, experience, and a genuine love for others.

But I don’t have a secret plan, product, or solution. Instead, I believe in three things:

1. People need EDUCATION

• People need to learn what makes a food healthy or unhealthy. The need to understand what exercise actually does to their bodies. They need to know that the overlap between physical, mental, and emotional health is so much more than they ever imagined.

2. People need ACCOUNTABILITY

• The best things in life are the hardest to attain. They require discipline and sacrifice and a bunch of hard work. If they don't have someone keeping them accountable, failure is inevitable.

3. People need COACHING 

• In life, change is the only constant. We all need someone in our corner helping us to navigate when the inevitable adversity comes our way. We need someone who’s done it themselves. Someone who is actually educated. Someone who is professionally experienced. And who, above all else, someone who genuinely loves us. Love is the most powerful aspect of coaching. 

My Personal Journey

My life was turned upside when, at just 21 years of age, I was diagnosed with cancer. I had always been active growing up, playing soccer throughout high school and running cross country in college. Now, I was forced to drop out of college and undergo radiation. 

I started to question all of the things I had done to my body growing up as I struggled with my own body image -- skipping meals, slim-fast shakes, the extra treadmill runs as punishment for eating dessert. 

It inspired me to not only take my personal wellness seriously but to pursue wellness as a career. Once I was cancer-free I finished college, earning my Bachelors of Science in Health & Fitness Studies from Nebraska Wesleyan. I began my career in corporate wellness and started working with personal clients on the side. 

Over the past twelve years, I've worked with clients ranging from giant companies to small businesses. I've worked with the elderly and children. Mothers and semi-professional athletes -- even teenagers.

I've watched people struggle with their weight, their body image, their post-partum bodies. I've watched them bounce around from trend to trend, developing a sense of self-hatred and hopelessness every time the new fad didn't work as promised. 

But I've also seen people discover incredible strength within themselves. I've seen people develop a sense of confidence and self-worth. I've seen what happens when people learn balance in their lives and begin to love themselves.

Our Approach

Our approach is very simple: Meet people where they are at because there is no one-size-fits-all plan. We listen to their goals, their struggles, their obstacles, and together come up with a custom plan to help them live a healthier life -- physically, mentally, and emotionally.

I don’t have a magic formula, it takes hard work and dedication, but what I’ve found is that by coaching my clients through their own personal journey, they can learn to adapt to new challenges, endure setbacks, and overcome their own fears.

MK Wellness focuses on meeting people where they are at in two different ways:

1. We focus on individuals one-on-one through our Wellness & Accountability Coaching App

2. We focus on both organizations & individuals through our Corporate Wellness Services
Why? Because it’s the place where we spend the majority of our waking lives. And because it’s the place that is the cause for the majority of our stress, anxiety, and depression.

We believe in the lean startup methodology which places customer feedback at the center of our company's universe. By continually soliciting feedback from both paying customers and prospective clients, we're able to combine our vision, passion, and expertise with real-time marketplace response so that we're building things that people truly love and change lives. 
 

Wellness & Accountability Coaching App

We launched our beta app in March 2019. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, but we’ve only developed a fraction of the resources we want to. Since education is fundamental to helping people sustainably change their lives, the more resources we can build into our app, the more successful our clients will be.

Our current version of our app includes the ability to sync with other devices (such as an Apple watch or Fitbit) in order to have a comprehensive overview of every metric we're tracking.

The next iteration of the Coaching App will include Cooking Demonstrations with Nutritional Guides, Variable Length At-Home Workouts, and Stress Management Techniques. 
 

Corporate Services

We’ve had an incredible response to our Corporate Wellness Services. Clients are excited that we’re offering different services, with a different approach, with a different ethos. But we need MK Wellness to continue to evolve to meet the modern workforce: one that is increasingly global, remote, and individualized. We’re investing in a technology platform that can put tailored wellness solutions in the hands of every employee in a company, regardless of where they work, how they work, or what their wellness goals are. More than that, we're helping companies build cultures of wellness in order to help their employees lead healthy lives, improve productivity & innovation, and realize substantial financial returns that dynamic wellness programs have been proven to create.

We've essentially built an MVP (Minimum Viable Product) that places emphasis on three aspects:
1. Integrating Wellness Programs into the company culture. This is the most significant and undervalued aspect of Corporate Wellness Programs as it is what leads to the highest ROI for companies -- as much as $6 for every $1 invested according to the Harvard Business Review. We prioritize the collection of quantitative and qualitative company feedback in order to provide clear benchmarks, targets, and metrics for quantifiable improvement. 

2. Our services extend beyond mitigating risk and performing Health Risk Assessments. Instead of focusing on mitigating risk, we look to instill programs that allow everyone to move towards a healthier version of themselves, regardless of their starting point. 

3. Our services are designed to move an entire organization forward while providing tailored support to every individual, regardless of where they work, how they work, or what their needs are. Investing in a technology platform that provides solutions for global companies is paramount to taking MK Wellness to the next level.
