Melanin Fashion Week is a platform and annual series of events created to celebrate, empower and spread awareness of fashion creatives of color. Melanin Fashion Week highlights minority fashion designers, models, artists, entertainers, and game changers.
Our mission is to inspire, educate, and empower as well as create and cultivate relationships amongst industry leaders, consumers, and creatives while helping black designers, models, and entrepreneurs benefit from the trillion dollar fashion industry.
The Problem We're Solving
The fashion and apparel market is a 3 trillion dollar industry with the U.S. fashion and apparel market being the largest in the world. Though the fashion industry is so huge and very widely influenced by black culture, the black community is poorly represented. Of almost 130 designers who show at fall fashion week, the number of black fashion designers who show ranges from 2-10. Of the models who walk during fashion week, only approximately 9.2% are models of color.
Oh, and let's not mention major companies who are known to mimic the hard work of indie black designers.
How Are We Solving The Problem?
Melanin Fashion Week is solving the problem by providing a scalable platform and annual series of events dedicated to creatives of color and connecting melanin fashion designers with buyers + consumers. Through our platform and events, we support the growth and success of multicultural fashion brands and the entrepreneurs behind them.
Why Are We Fundraising?
Melanin Fashion Week is a passion project turned startup. We are seeking funds to take us to the next level.
