Little Red Kitchen Bark Shop was born out of our love for dogs and our desire to feed them the absolute best treats they can get their paws on.
10 years ago I brought home a big eyed, goofy and wild 6 month old pug. From that moment on I fell completely in love with Sir Pugsley and it became my goal to give him the best possible life that he could live. As a first time dog parent I researched the best dog food, treats and everything in between to treat him like the king that he is!
Do you want to know what I learned?
Not all dog treats are created equal.
Many treats contain preservatives, added sugar, color, animal plasma, salt, artificial flavors, by-products, etc, etc, and the list goes on.
If these added ingredients weren't going into my diet, it wasn't going into my dog's either. It turns out that dogs, especially my dog, love fruits and veggies. So we started incorporating carrots, apples, berries and bananas into his diet. Pretty soon it was no longer safe to eat an apple in front of Sir Pugsley unless you wanted a pug in your face begging for a bite! Still, I wanted to do more for him - then it clicked! I'm a baker, why not bake him some wholesome treats filled with the foods he loves?!
Fast forward to today.
I own a thriving baked goods business for people, why not start sharing the love with all the dogs out there? This is how Little Red Kitchen Bark Shop - the sister company to Little Red Kitchen Bake Shop was born. In each flavor of our treats, you won't find a single ingredient that you cannot pronounce or can't find at the grocery store. We've developed three flavors that have no more than 6 ingredients total.
They include:
- Oat flour and whole oats - A good source of fiber, including beta-glucans which may help to lower blood glucose and insulin response. They also contain polyphenols and anti-oxidants.
- Carrots - Loaded with beta-carotene; an antioxidant and precursor to vitamin A.
- Pumpkin - Also a great source of beta-carotene. In addition, it is a good source of soluble fiber.
- Apples - Full of vitamin A, vitamin C, and dietary fiber.
- Peanut Butter - Contains protein and healthy fat for dogs.
- Coconut Oil - Has anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties.
- Cinnamon - Anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal.
Combined, you have our three flavors - Pumpkin Pie, Carrot Cake and Apple Peanut Butter Crisp. All-natural, all delicious and completely irresistible.

Luckily for us, many start-up costs are already covered, such as a kitchen space and equipment. However, there's so much more that goes into starting a new business. Some of the main expenses go to package designs, cost and printing, ingredients, nutritional and guaranteed analyses, and a spiffy new website. The remaining pays for marketing efforts such as trade shows, dog shows and more!

About Little Red Kitchen Bark Shop
Little Red Kitchen Bark Shop was founded by Susan Palmer, owner and chief cookie baker of Little Red Kitchen Bake Shop - our sister brand for people treats! The Bake Shop was founded in 2014 after Susan won first place in the Brooklyn Cookie Takedown in 2011 and 2012! Tired of her day job, she decided to take a leap and start her baked goods company producing small batch, hand made cookies and cookie pies using organic ingredients, no artificial flavors, colors or preservatives for a taste that is wholesome and delicious! In February of 2019, Susan started selling her dog cakes and treats at a dog friendly coffee shop in Queens, NY. Susan takes her love of cookies and puppies very seriously, which is why starting Little Red Kitchen Bark Shop was a natural choice.
Special thanks go out to my husband, Braden for all of his support in starting this new venture, Steve Rydgren of Imaginessence for his incredible work on our video, Chateau le Woof for hosting us for our treat tasting and all the dogs of New York City that have tried and loved our treats!
