Little Likes Kids™ is a boutique toy company designed for a new generation of kids by offering toys with decidedly diverse imagery.
As a nonprofit professional, our founder, Kemi Tignor, had built a career she was passionate about—one that focused on the arts, girls' education, social justice, and community organizing. But after welcoming her son, "all the plans I had laid out to ensure a good work-life balance fell through," she explains. Thinking about how she could adapt her skills to fit this new chapter of her life, she landed on something she'd never dreamed of before: starting a toy company. Working with a team of talented artists, Kemi channels her passions into creating an inclusive line of products that represent a diverse array of images, cultures, and contemporary themes.
Educational toys that represent cultural and ethnic differences accurately and clearly to children can be hard to find. That is why Little Likes Kids has made it our mission to provide, fun, interactive, and colorful toys that represent children of all backgrounds interacting and playing together. This powerful message is communicated through the eye-catching original artwork we use to create each of our unique puzzles and matching games.
Funding would allow us to expand our line and further invest in our e-commerce strategy:
(1) Funding will be used to design and build a digital system to streamline logistics and accelerate both e-commerce and retail sales. Little Likes Kids is 1st to market as a boutique toy brand featuring kids of color and various demographics. Backend technology needs to be custom-built to match our unique brand story, to work with social media engagement, and ultimately accelerate our market capture of buyers of diverse educational toys for kids.
(2) We have a sophisticated design process led by a diverse team that reflects the target market. We have learned a lot about our customers' interests and what sells. Toys are a hit-driven market. So funding would also be very timely and invested in production to respond to data-based research and new product trends.

We make puzzles, games, tabletop accessories, and holiday items with decidedly diverse imagery. Founded by a mom and inspired by her son and the places they go, Little Likes Kids™ is bringing to a mass market, beautifully-illustrated, and lovingly designed toys that are truly reflective of the lives of today’s kids. Featuring recognizable and happy scenes, Little Likes Kids™ makes it easy for all parents and caregivers to buy toys that celebrate their kids’ world!
2. What do you enjoy most about working at Little Likes Kids?
As Founder & CEO, I enjoy the freedom to create and work collaboratively with a lot of different, interesting, and very talented people. The encouragement I receive from parents and caregivers who are so excited to bring the products I make home to their kids makes me feel like I could happily do this work forever!
3. Share one of Little Likes Kids’ proudest moments.
Convincing my mother to help me with my retail accounts! She’s retired and I called on her because sometimes you really have to take stock of all your assets and family is definitely a big one! I only had a vague understanding of her 30+ year career in manufacturing sales/logistics. She traveled with me to ASTRA Marketplace & Academy in Pittsburgh—my first trade show—and proved to be absolutely invaluable understanding the language and norms of manufacturing, purchasing, and sales. She was a hit with retailers, who knew! LOL! It made me proud that I have a mother who I not only want to work with but who has exactly the expertise I needed at that moment.
4. What do you love about being in the specialty toy industry?
I am grateful for the warm reception I received from the members of this special community. I appreciate the encouragement I receive from retailers and sales reps to keep going. I can feel that folks are rooting for us to get this right and help the industry offer high-quality toys that celebrate the wonderful diversity and cultural richness of today’s kids!
