I'm a single, black, educated woman from the South Side of Chicago. I'm also the Author of The Violet Book Series. I was blessed with the opportunity to travel outside of Chicago to attend Yale University, for training in Early Childhood Education and Child Development. Upon returning home and working with children, in the city of Chicago, I noticed a need for positive stories that build self esteem in children of color. There's a need for more books that tell their stories in a very authentic way while inspiring others.
Our mission is to change the world as we see it, one book at a time, through the eyes of black children. Every book in the series teaches a life lesson while combating the stereotype that fathers are not present in communities of children of color.
Imagery is extremely powerful, especially for black and brown children. Books for black children, written by a black author, mean a lot to children, as we work to tell their stories in the most authentic way.
The market is ready for this product. We are in several bookstores, museums, and libraries nationwide. The book series was recently featured on it's first global platform, United Airlines social media pages, as I made black history as the first African American woman to be invited to do a book launch/reading at O'hare International Airport
Let's Talk Incorporated is an umbrella company. Under it, The Violet Book Series operates as a morally based children's book series that celebrates cultural diversity, inclusion, and builds self esteem in black children. The problem that it solves is in that each book teaches a life lesson, as taught by the black father in the book, showing that men are and can be more than one thing, that they are also nurturers and teachers, a child's guide in life.
We are seeking funding in order to scale to be able to pitch the book series as a cartoon series
There are a few contract workers, digital architects, graphic designers, and social media campaign managers who help move the brand forward. The series has also been featured on various news and media outlets such as Fox32 News and WCIU-TV.
I sincerely thank everyone for their investments in granting children access to books and stories that positively reflect them. One of the happiest things you can ever hear a child say is, "Look Mommy, she looks like me!" Together we can and will make a difference in the lives of all children everywhere through The Violet Book Series
