What is the mission of your company or project?
To provide immersive and impactful historical experiences that empower and revitalize the nation’s most forgotten and destroyed BIPOC communities.
Describe the problem you are solving:
In America, we have a problem with telling accurate history. The erasure of BIPOC history is alarming.
These communities often lack resources to rebuild…even decades later.
How can we tell lost stories from the past, in a way that makes a positive impact on the future?
How can we drive foot traffic, genuine interest, and sustainable financial investment to these neighborhoods without having to lay a single new brick?
What is the market size/opportunity?
Historifi has 2 markets. The app will primarily rely on government partnerships and ad sales for revenue. While app will be free to download, there will be opportunities to build additional revenue through in-app purchases.
One of the most promising government programs that we can leverage for funding is the Main Street America Program. This organization has $6 billion up for grabs in annual funds allotted for the revitalization of historical small towns across America. More than 2,000 towns participate in this program.
According to the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB), 2023 Travel Ad Spend vs. 2022 Increased by 20.6%. Additionally, 18% of Ad buyers said they would focus significantly/somewhat more on augmented reality ads.
When we look at the total available market, the projected 2023 US Digital Ad Spend is $78.5 Billion with a projected Digital Ad Spend per Internet Use at $619.
Narrowed down specifically to the Travel Industry Digital Ad Spend and there is $5 Billion up for grabs in 2023.
Historifi will target Heritage/Cultural tourists - people traveling to experience the places and activities that authentically represent the stories and people of the past and present.
US Tourism is a $1.9 Trillion Industry. With 81% of all leisure travelers labeled as heritage tourists, that’s a market size value of $557 Billion nationwide.
What is your company/product about and how does it solve the problem?
In partnership with city governments and tourism organizations, Historifi allows users to roam historic towns on self-guided tours, interacting with augmented reality experiences along the way.
Historifi turns stores, streets, events, and entire neighborhoods into exciting tourist attractions - to put dollars in the pockets of the folks who started it all. From gamification to observable art, there are ever evolving possibilities to tell these stories using this platform.
This format allows tourists to understand the BIPOC communities that were once thriving there and develop an emotional connection. Now they won’t just visit but will become invested in the revitalization and future success of the community.
Why are you seeking funding and how will you spend the funding?
Hitorifi needs funding to hire the best team of designers and developers to create a high-quality user experience.
We also need funds to allow our team of world-class marketers and storytellers to devote their time and expertise entirely to this project.
Who is on your team?
Maria Ferguson and Jaslyn Ferguson are a mother-daughter duo that developed the idea for Historifi after working with small historic Black towns on fundraising and tourism campaigns. Together they have over 40 years of marketing experience in education, entertainment, and tourism. They have assembled a dream team of additional co-founders and advisors specializing in nonprofit organization, software development, finance, accessibility/diversity inclusion, youth group travel, and advertising sales.
