Project Description

Dr. Wachira Featured in September issues of Alameda and Oakland Magazine. On the Cover of Alameda Magazine

This campaign is for Karibu by Wachira wine lounge, a community-based tasting room which will be located on Park Street in Alameda, Ca.

Karibu is a Swahili word that translates to mean you're welcome. Our fundraising campaign is aimed at addressing just that, the need to create a space where great but underserved wineries are highlighted and celebrated. A place where you're welcome!

Karibu by Wachira wine lounge will showcase the value of diversity in the wine market by offering a retail platform for BIPOC, women, and local winemakers. But we cannot do it alone. We need your support to make this community-building effort a reality.

With your help and support, in Karibu by Wachira, minority owned wineries such as Wachira Wines will now have a home in the heart of Alameda, perfect for community building.

Karibu by Wachira is the culmination of the extraordinary vision and effort of Dr. Chris (Christine) Wachira, the first Kenyan-born, Californian winemaker. As a young immigrant, Chris fell in-love with the science of wine making and developed a deep appreciation for the sense of community built from sharing a bottle of wine with complete strangers. Her story is about equity and the ability to succeed through adversity.
