Super Media Company is a contemporary collective and digital media brand that supports creative people of color via multidisciplinary art studios, educational programs, and content.
In the last decade, there have been over 22,000 coworking spaces opened worldwide; 100 of them were Black owned and even fewer with dedicated spaces for the arts.
Super Media Company offers physical workspaces for the development and advancement of Black and Brown artists, photographers, writers, musicians, and creatives along with a digital platform for educational resources and inspiration.
As creatives we have been in creative studios and institutions that seem diverse but have proven to be inaccessible through microaggressions, expensive fees, and lack of inclusive programming. We know firsthand how hard it is to find spaces to create without having to code switch or break the bank.
Super is for the Black and Brown creative who is in need of an affordable and accessible space to work, network, and/or present their art.
With the ever-present pandemic, SMC, like many other community-based companies, had to consider what this world would look like if everyone had to stay 6 feet apart, in non confined spaces, with masks on. Art still needs to be created and still can be with the right strategy.
Our First Initiative
SMC is raising $35,000 to kick off our first initiative, the Super Pop-Up, a travelling outdoor workspace with a scheduling app that allows creatives to work, shoot, and record in an open space in the summer of 2021.
The shipping container style workspace will be equipped with a soundproof podcasting station, a studio for photo and video shooting, and...seating areas with outlets and Wi-Fi.
We are choosing such a long lead time on this project because, while we will be launching this initiative regardless, we understand the state of the world at this moment and we want to give our people time to heal.
The container will be equipped with a strong ventilation system for the podcasting area, our staff will be on hand to sanitize each and every station after its use, AND no matter how this disease is spread we’ll be working with common sense and safety.
Photographers and videographers can rely on super for their portraits and short interviews.
A three person podcasting studio for live or recorded shows for up to 4 hours a session.
The Coworking Lounge:
As an extension to the desks on the ground level, the roof lounge is also a coworking space for meetings, working, and relaxation in between appointments.
Using the Super App (coming soon) visitors can maximize their time in the container with complimentary scheduling, desk reservations (and live cams to confirm our capacity, and easy connect to the wifi, printers, and other tech included in the container.
Super is community-based so we want to include the community we serve in the process. Your contribution helps SMC solve a problem that many investors don’t believe exists. We deserve a space to be creative no matter the discipline or economic position. Every dollar raised will be used for not only building and furnishing the container but on the latest technology and equipment, the sanitary needs to keep us safe from Covid, and hiring a full staff of color. Join us in kicking off this first phase to bring Super to life locally by donating whatever you can or simply sharing this campaign with your network.
SMC is for us and by us but most importantly with us.
Some of the future plans SMC has, include a larger brick and mortar space in LA and NY; expanding to other cities thereafter, offering services like equipment rentals, sound engineering and editing, and partnering with local schools on art programs for our youth.
Super Media Company’s Founder and CEO, Crystal Hines; born and raised in Newark, NJ, the city of the arts; started her career in 2006 during her time at the culturally iconic publication, Vibe Magazine. In 2007, Crystal launched AMMO Magazine on a mission to fill the void of curated art based on content that celebrates people of color. Crystal has worked tirelessly to transform AMMO into a key player in the world of art and curation and, after launching Super Media Company as AMMO’s parent company, will continue to provide artists and creatives with a way to launch and solidify their careers while reaching uncharted audiences.
For helping Super build this container, we have some really dope rewards on our campaign page! Thank you so much for your support in helping Super Media Company kick off it's first initiative!
